Over the years while teaching and gathering experience, the best method to use to teach children is making them part of the process of learning that particular topic, engage them in activities that will make the whole process fun and a memory to cherish.
This method has been working for me and it still does when I decided on how to teach my pupils the continents of world.
I made a sphere out of paper mache and indicated all the planet on it. So the pupils could feel it and understand how the Earth is spherical and all. Then I made a very large postal on the continents and engage the pupils with the painting and colouring to differentiate each continent. All the pupils participated and ask questions on the use of the different color especially the use of blue which signifies the part of the Earth occupied by water.
The efforts was worthwhile and productive as the pupils can identify the continents on the map and differentiate between them, learn about the biggest continent, the smallest, hottest and coldest. This method of teaching is very good as oppose forcing them to cram your own planned lessons.
