Every night mouse would leave his tree stump home, to go to the house and listen to story time at the little girls window. Her mom read her a new story every night and mouse loved listening to them as much as the girl did. What mouse didn't know was tonight would be different, instead of story time mouse found the little girl crying in her bed as her mom comforted her.

“What made her so sad" mouse wondered. Then he heard them talking: “Mommy it meant the world to me, daddy gave me that locket for my birthday" she sobbed “I know dear" mom comforted “It will show up sooner or later. It can't be lost" she told her daughter.
Mouse went home deciding tomorrow morning early he'll help her look for her locket. Early the next morning mouse was ready to set out and find the missing locket. He decided to start at the beginning, starting with her room. So off he went sneaking in through the open gap in the kitchen door. When he was in her room he went to her pet budgie Polly who was looking at him. “Did you see if the girl had her locket on yesterday morning when she went outside to play? Mouse asked. Polly giving careful thought answered back “yes she had it on when she left the room to go play outside in the yard.”
Mouse asked another question “Do you know where she wanted to play? Polly thought again and said: “at the tree house, she wanted to pay with her dolls there.” Mouse thanked him then headed outside to the big old tree where the kids and their dad had build a tree house a while back. Mouse climbed the tree then started to look around. When Mrs Bird spotted him perched in her nest on the branch by the window. “What are you looking for mouse" she asked curiously. Mouse answered her “ the little girl lost her locket and I'm trying to help her find it" Mrs bird chirped ruffling her feathers. “ Well if that is all. She was still wearing it when she headed for the flower garden”
Mouse thanked her, then climbed down the tree towards the flower garden. It was a huge garden. Mouse wondered if he'll ever find it in this jungle of plants when he heard Lizzy the lizard greet him. She was still basking in the sun on her favourite rock. “What's wrong Mouse?” she asked still warming up. Mouse told her about the girl and the necklace when she answered back “well its not here in the garden, she still wore it when she headed to the pond" Mouse thanked her “Thank you Lizzy” then headed to the pond, relieved he didn’t have to search the whole flower garden, that would have taken him days. When mouse reached the pond he started to search. He looked every where he couldn't find anything. Growing weary he took a break on the rocks near the water. When suddenly mouse heard some one ask “are you lost little mouse?”

Mouse looked around but didn't see anyone, confused he replied “Where are you, please tell me." The voice answered back telling him to look down into the water. Mouse saw a gold fish. He greeted the gold fish who introduced himself as Goldie. Mouse introduced himself back and they started talking. Goldie asked mouse what mouse was looking for when mouse told him the whole story. Goldie giggled" well if that’s all you're looking for I know where it is." Mouse jumped up excitedly “where?” he asked jumping to his feet. Goldie then pointed to the water he was swimming in, down here at the bottom of the pond. Mouse looked confused and sat down again. How is he ever going to reach the locket now? He can swim but he can't dive under water or even hold his breath that long. “What am I going to do now?” he asked Goldie, who then answered mouse excitedly “ I can help you with that" and disappeared back under the water before mouse could speak.
After a few minutes Goldie appeared again with the locket, mouse was so exited he jumped with joy “thank you Goldie…thank you!” Goldie gave him the locket and he thanked him again. Then Mouse headed back home to surprise the little girl. That evening when the little girl got ready for bed, she just finished brushing her teeth, when she heard a faint knock on the window. She went to the window curious about the sound. She started pulling back the curtains as she opened the window. She gasped as she saw it … her locket. Excitedly she grabbed it, looking around. She didn't see anybody but knew someone had found it for her and returned it. She repeated to shout thank you as she ran to her mom to share the good news. Mouse came out of hiding, from behind the bushes at the window, smiling. He was a happy mouse. Today was a good day. He helped the little girl and brought back her smile and in doing so he also made a new friend, named Goldie.
