Stories for kids 5: Mouse and the Tooth Mous

in Education3 years ago (edited)

It was another of the last warm days before winter came and Mouse was outside his treestump home looking at the last of the colorful leaves as they fell to the ground.

Not feeling in the mood to do anything Mouse just relaxed when the peace was suddenly interrupted by Hoppie the grasshopper from two farms down. Calling his name, Mouse's ears perked up and he answered back just as Hoppie made it to his home. They greeted each other then Mouse asked him “Why are you so out of breath?”

Hoppie smiled then replied “It's your cousin, Tooth Mouse. He needs your help tonight with the teeth collecting. He is swarmed and won't make all the houses tonight. He asks if you could help him collect Timmies tooth tonight. He lives two farms down on the other side?” Mouse was feeling lazy today but knows his cousin helped him many times in the past, it's time to return the favour. “Sure Hoppie tell my cousin I'll help him out tonight” “Great!” Hoppie answered excitedly back. Then said goodbye and hopped on back to tell his cousin.
Later that night Mouse got everything ready. His backpack packed with the coins for the tooth he must collect. This isn't the first time mouse played the role of his tooth mouse cousin and will surely not be his last either. So he knows the drill. After all the preperations was done, mouse sets off to Timmies house. Roamer, the mouse loving black cat, gave Mouse a ride on his back to the house. Roamer always helps the tooth mouse family. When they got there, Roamer waited at the gate leading to the house. Mouse set off to find a place to enter the house.

Mouse had quite a mission finding a gap and took quite some time, when he finally spotted an open window. When Mouse got inside he saw couches and a table. He knew now he was in the living room. Slowly and carefully mouse sneaked around the house looking for the boy's room. He passed the tv room and the kitchen, even the sister's room when he finally reached his destination, Timmies room. Mouse looked around the room. Then he spotted the tell tail greeting for the tooth mouse, a box and a piece of cheese, exited to have finally found the tooth. Just as Mouse reached for the box he saw something in the shadows that didn't quite look right. It was long and slinky, to his horror he realized it's the form and shape of a snake. He quickly ducked for cover under a teddy bear nearby. This has never happened before. Mouse wanted to panic but remembered that doesn't help at all. So he calmed himself and turned his attention back to the snake. It didn't move at all, didn't even take a breath. It can't be sleeping maybe it's dead or….. maybe it could be a toy? He wasn't sure but he has to know. Mouse rounded up all the courage he could and ran towards the snake, just close enough to get its attention, yet far enough to flee to safety. The snake still didn't move, no response. Mouse, now carefully crept closer ever so slowly, when he got close enough to touch it he did, only to discover its fake, a rubber toy snake.

Mouse took a deep breath and so relieved after a big scare. He then opened the box next to the snake, took the tooth out of the box and put it in his back pack. He took out the coins and put them in the box in exchange for the tooth. He then packed the piece of cheese to snack on at home. He left quickly and quietly.

Outside Roamer grew worried. When he saw Mouse he relaxed. “Where have you been? I was getting worried that something might have happened to you!” Roamer said worriedly. Mouse assured him that he was okay now and he'll tell him the whole story on the way home. They laughed about it as Mouse told about his adventure and knowing now the boy wanted to play a trick on the tooth mouse. But he'll be surprised to find this morning it's a very brave tooth mouse that left him his coins.
Later that morning mouse was heading to bed for a well deserved rest, smiling as he climbed into bed. Today the boy will be happy he got his coins for his tooth and a surprise that the tooth mouse is brave. He helped his cousin in need. And he learned what it takes to be brave. It's okay to be scared. Every body gets scared. It is what you do during that fear that makes you brave. Stop and think, do not panic. And with that Mouse was fast asleep .
