INDONESIA is one of the developing countries which is still moving on in various aspects, one of which is the economic sector. The productive economy is a strategic step that can be taken to increase the creativity of the community in the periphery areas with a relatively low regional minimum wage so that the fulfillment of community welfare can be carried out evenly.
In this regard, the role of the younger generation as a milestone for change in developing regional potential is very important, one of which is by adjusting the geographical situation to the business to be established, as well as engineering natural resources to make it more efficient to produce.
Technology potential
Currently, technology plays a very important role in the development of human civilization, including in Indonesia. In this regard, the younger generation who are commonly referred to as “millennials” plays a very large role. Based on statistical data, the millennial generation reaches 33.75 percent of the total population of Indonesia, and nearly 40 percent is the workforce in the economic sector (bps.go.id, 2018).
In line with this, the millennial generation who tend to be 'familiar' with technology and information, have greater access in pioneering and developing a productive and modern economy to the fullest. Along with the ongoing industrial revolution 4.0, the millennial generation is considered capable of competing and increasing the productivity of the economic sector in a relatively complex and neat way, one of which is the use of the digital economy.
Armed with technological capabilities and a more modern lifestyle, millennial workers are able to carry out more massive and organized production and marketing processes. This is an aspect that is very much needed by the people of Indonesia at this time.
In addition, the millennial generation tends to have fresh ideas that can be used as a spearhead of competition in creatively revitalizing the economy. Talking about creativity, Indonesia's young generation essentially has a relatively high level of innovation ability.
For example, the invention of hand sanitizer with moringa leaf extract by Tadulako University students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the innovation of automatic milk milking and sterilization by students of Universitas Brawijaya, and innovation of the Covid-19 virus sterilization robot by Universitas Brawijaya students, which even won the Spirit of Shell competition. Referring to this, it can be seen that the Nusantara millennial generation has reliable competitiveness. Armed with creativity combined with today's technology, Indonesia's younger generations are able to create “contemporary” innovations that can be used to facilitate human work. This can also continue to innovate tools in production houses so that it will help Indonesia's economic growth as a whole.
On the other hand, the Nusantara millennials who often grow and develop in the digital era make this generation have a broad social circle and the ability to manage communication more optimally with the help of the internet. With daily activities that are 'accompanied' by social media, the millennial generation can easily carry out their daily activities.
At the same time, millennial generations generally have flexible and strong principles in various ways. In this regard, emotion and comfort in doing activities are non-negotiable prices.
In work fields that are closely related to the economy, this generation born in 1982-2004 will choose jobs that are in line with their hobbies, have loose and less stressful rules, and have a work environment with colleagues that make them 'comfortable' because of their age. relatively the same, so that it will produce better communication and generate new creative ideas from the results of sharing that are often carried out in daily work activities.
Build from the periphery
Having passed away from the fact that the Nusantara millennial generation has quite high readiness and 'alertness', it is only right for this generation to be involved in the real world of work by applying their creativity and idealism which tends to be 'new' to the outside world.
The young generation of Indonesia is basically very capable of developing peripheral areas and low economies in order to equalize the line of the prosperity of the nation which is currently relatively unstable. By maintaining the preservation of natural and cultural values as the nation's wealth, the archipelago's millennials who are rich in creative ideas are able to turn things that initially have an 'ordinary' impression into something of high and extraordinary value.
For example, a group of young people who are native to the region, armed with the creativity and technical skills that support them, take advantage of their ancestral heritage in the form of natural wealth to become a promising economic sector with various forms of marketing; agricultural products that are marketed as organic products, nurseries with unique techniques, and making several natural forest spots as tourism objects which will also increase local income regionally and nationally.
The millennial generation has an important role as a productive workforce in Indonesia, so this generation has great potential as a main pillar for Indonesia's future in various important aspects of the country (Fajri, 2019).
Based on the facts presented, the young Indonesian generation currently has the responsibility as agents of repair, where the main task that has been homework throughout the era of the development of this country is to continue the glory of the nation from the past and to realize the dream of the archipelago to become a golden Indonesia in the future.
