While I know nothing about Romanian politics, standing up against the tyrannical, authoritarian Covid policies took character and guts, especially for a politician.

I still judge Israeli politicians by their stance during Covid.
It is quite interesting because the there are two national religious (not far right just right so far) politicians here: Ben Gvir and Smotrich. They are from separate parties but combined for voting purposes last election to ensure they got over the 4% threshold.

Ben Gvir stood up against Covid tyranny. Smotrich was a nasty authoritarian.
The Right / Left split is very different from the libertarian / authoritarian split.

Strange bedfellows then. Maybe tyranny didn't bother him quite so much if he could so easily shake hands with the authoritarian. Similar situation here, as with all countries. As soon as it suits, freedom becomes a flimsy subject.

That's a very good point. It's hectic following all the terms (especially in translation).
