Texas just banned abortions after 6 weeks(https://www.npr.org/2021/09/01/1033202132/texas-abortion-ban-what-happens-next), and this is terrible for women in Texas. It's just removing rights for them. 90% of the abortions in Texas happen after the 6 week period(source), and some women can't tell that they are pregnant until months later(source).
This bill doesn't have the state going after those who are giving or receiving the abortions. Instead it's going to be people suing others over abortions. This is going to end terribly for rape victims, people who can't afford to have children(the foster care system in America is terrible) with the financial burden of a child.
The worst part is that the people who are supporting these types of laws are getting abortions themselves or supporting their family getting abortions, you can read about some cases in the following site: https://joycearthur.com/abortion/the-only-moral-abortion-is-my-abortion/
Here's some snippets from the site:
I have done several abortions on women who have regularly picketed my clinics, including a 16 year old schoolgirl who came back to picket the day after her abortion
I’ve had several cases over the years in which the anti-abortion patient had rationalized in one way or another that her case was the only exception, but the one that really made an impression was the college senior who was the president of her campus Right-to-Life organization, meaning that she had worked very hard in that organization for several years.
THE FUNDAMENTAL ATTRIBUTION ERROR
Are rape pregnancies common in your area?
rape is notoriously under-reported
So I have heard.
It doesn't matter if they are common. Even one is too many. An unwanted pregnancy is an unwanted pregnancy. If there were better supports for children after they were born to ensure they have a good life(there aren't) things could be different, but there aren't.
It certainly does matter if they are common. One is too many, but dozens and dozens might be a sign to be somewhere else.
