Under this covid circumstance, there was a prediction that there will be less polling places in this election. Recently Vice obtained data from all 50 states and Washington dc and analysed. Comparing with 2016 and 2012 election there are 21000 polling places are missing. It isn't just because of the covid crisis this seasonal voting cost-cutting measures and voter suppression.
It's this covid situation that caused an upward trend of mail voting. According to vice news information, 45 states weren't using mail voting before 2020. now 40 of them are decreased the polling locations. Even if it's a precautionary move this trend there is also some bad sides to it. From the 40 states mentioned above, 35 are not sending mail to ballets to everyone.
The primary problem of cutting the polling places will be longer lines and it could affect each voter compared to their health and wealth situations and it's going to make huge impacts. each state has there own rules and regulations in this election. The difference is a lot more than before.
voter suppression is also considered as another reason but according to the recent issues, this trend could disproportionately impact young and none white voters. The recent problem created by Trump on us post office also has a huge impact in this chaotic situation.so most Republicans and some Democrats are not preferring the mail voting, it's the trust issue
The general possible problems that needed to be considered are people going to the wrong places to voting a certain amount of people still don't know the exact locations and the changes happen to previous locations. The main impact would be upon poor people. the poor one's who don't have a car needs to find the right transportation, most of them are daily workers and it is going to affect their time off they are going to take.
The longer lines could impact not only the poor also the disabled and aged people. The public transportation like buses is going to create a covid spread scenario.the real impact would be only said after the election time.
