mutations happen randomly and at various rates, but i would be more scared if covid19 infected someone with measles. in the end viruses basically inject their DNA or RNA into a cell and let the cell copy the DNA, occasionally making mistakes, where sniplets of the viruses DNA go in our DNA or another viruses DNA in the virus DNA or so on...
