I came across an article by Politico, with a bit shocking title:
USAID official tells remaining staffers: Shred and burn all your documents
A senior official at USAID instructed the agency’s remaining staff to convene at the agency’s now-former headquarters in Washington on Tuesday for an “all day” group effort to destroy documents stored there, many of which contain sensitive information.
The materials earmarked for destruction include contents of the agency’s “classified safes and personnel documents” at the Ronald Reagan Building, said an email sent by USAID’s acting executive director, Erica Carr, and obtained by POLITICO.
...
The email didn’t provide any reason for the document destruction. The building is being emptied out after mass layoffs, which may have disrupted routine document destruction timetables.
...
A former USAID staffer confirmed the veracity of the email and described the destruction of agency documents as unprecedented.
...
Another article from ZeroHedge reports the same thing, with a screenshot of the email:
"Shred And Burn All Documents": USAID Staff Ordered To Destroy Evidence On Tuesday
After Elon Musk's DOGE has uncovered all kinds of bad things from USAID, it seems USAID is acting like a criminal organization covering up its tracks. Here is the picture of the email from Erica Carr, acting executive director of USAID.
Good afternoon,
Thank you for your assistance in clearing our classified safes and personnel documents from the RRB. The event will take place all day tomorrow, March 11, beginning at 9:30am.Please meet at the RRB 14th Street Lobby at 9:30a.m. However, if you cannot be there at that exact time your badge will be programmed for access to your work area.
Shred as many documents first, and reserve the burn bags for when the shredder becomes unavailable or needs a break.
If you need to use the burn bags, do not overfill, and ensure the burn bag can be closed with staples at the top.
The only labeling required on the burn bags are the words "SECRET" and "USAID/(B/IO)" in dark sharpie if possible.
If you need additional burn bags or sharpie markers, please let me or the SEC InfoSec team know.
Thank you so much,
(redacted)
Acting Executive Secretary
