It's time to try out the very first playable demo of my retro roguelike but compiled for modern systems.

You might have seen the C64 version, now here is the modern browser-based version :)

Try it out here!

This version uses the same code C code as the C64 and PET character-based versions, but is rendered using Raylib compiled to WASM using Emscripten.

The amount of code changes make me think it is not really an efficient option rendering it this way, particularly because this is NOT an action game, but at least the game logic will be consistent across platforms so more legitimately "the same game" rather than a "port.

How to Play

To play, use WASD to move around. Collect all the idols to move on to the next room and avoid the baddies ...

Please let me know ...

Already getting some great feedback and ideas but I need you to honestly (but politely) let me know what YOUR thoughts are for me to make this a full, fun game!

feedback:
have the game run non-full screen if you can since its about the size of the viewport on itch.

The Q button is too close to the W and A buttons and the user accidentally presses Q which restarts the game.

Love the visualisation of the Door cracking.

i was having fun running around attacking with the sword and got to level 3 until i had to go Up towards a green troll. i wasnt able to attack upward, and got wasted.

maybe adding like some ambient sounds to the game would be interesting. like realistic cave sounds of water droplets.

there could be a high score board.

i dont know if you want to change the movement system so that you can hold down the move button or if you like the tapping of the key to move. would future iterations of the game (say a 3d version) have you move space by space. you mentioned this is NOT an action game...

Oh, so you can brute force your way through doors, haha.

  1. Some sounds?
  2. While traditionally moving is to be done in steps, it does require some dexterity that you have less of with age :)
