The sixth Sutra of Guan Yin

"The Avatamsaka Sutra" (Flower Ornament Sutra) is an extensive and profound sutra that covers a wide range of teachings, including cosmology, the nature of reality, and the path to enlightenment. It is considered one of the most important texts in the Mahayana tradition and is known for its extensive and detailed descriptions of the Pure Land and the Buddha-realm.

"I am one with all things, and all things are one with me."

One parable that illustrates the teachings of the Avatamsaka Sutra is “The Journey of the Heart”:

Mei and her child, Jun, were lost in the dense forest. The thick foliage blocked out the sunlight, leaving them in a perpetual dim light. Mei's feet ached from the rough terrain and her stomach growled from hunger. She hugged Jun close to her chest, trying to shield him from the cold. His cries were constant, a reflection of his hunger and fear. Mei's heart broke with every cry, knowing that she couldn't provide for him.

"Please, Jun, I know you're hungry and scared, but we have to keep going," Mei whispered, tears streaming down her face.
Just as Mei was about to give up hope, they stumbled upon an old sage. He was a hermit of great wisdom, who had lived in the forest for many years. Mei, filled with gratitude, asked him to guide them out of the forest and back to safety.

"Please, wise one, can you help us find our way out of this forest? My son is hungry and scared, and I am at a loss," Mei pleaded.
The sage looked at Mei and Jun with kind eyes and replied, "I can guide you out of the forest, but first, you must listen to my teachings. I can show you how to find food and shelter and how to navigate the forest with confidence and peace."

Mei nodded, grateful for any help. The sage led them through the forest, speaking of the interconnectedness of all things. He spoke of the great web of life that stretched out before them, and how they were not alone, but were in fact a part of this vast network.

As they walked, Mei began to feel a sense of peace wash over her. The sage's words resonated with her, and she began to see the beauty in the forest. The trees seemed taller, the air fresher, and the birds sang a sweeter melody. She felt a warmth in her chest and realized that it was her love for her son, Jun, that was making her feel this way.

The sage showed them how to find food and shelter, and how to navigate the forest with confidence and peace. Mei was amazed at how quickly they were able to find berries and nuts to eat, and how the sage was able to make a shelter out of branches and leaves.

As they sat around the fire that night, the sage said to Mei, "Your love for your son is a reflection of the boundless compassion of the universe. You are not just a mother, but a part of the great web of life, and your love and compassion are an integral part of this interconnectedness."

Mei felt a tear roll down her cheek, "Thank you, wise one, for showing me this truth. I will carry it with me always."
With the sage's guidance, Mei and Jun finally emerged from the forest, safe and sound. They continued their journey to the city, but their experience in the forest had changed them forever. They were no longer just mother and son, but they were also a reflection of the boundless compassion of the universe.

The sage's wisdom and compassion had shown them the path to understanding and peace. They were forever grateful to the old sage who had saved them from certain doom, and they remembered his teachings always, living in harmony with the world around them.
As they hugged goodbye, Mei said to the sage, "You have changed our lives forever, and we will never forget you."

The sage smiled and replied, "It was not I who changed your lives, it was the truth I shared with you. Carry it with you always and you will always find your way."

And with that, Mei and Jun set out on their journey, the wisdom of the sage guiding them every step of the way. They walked with a newfound sense of purpose, their hearts full of love and compassion. As they traveled, they encountered many people and helped them in any way they could, spreading the teachings of the sage and the boundless compassion of the universe.

They traveled for many years, and eventually, they reached the city. They settled there and lived a peaceful life, always remembering the sage's teachings and spreading his wisdom to those around them.

As time passed, Mei grew old and eventually passed away, but her legacy lived on. Her son, Jun, became a wise and compassionate leader in the city, and he continued to spread his mother's teachings to all who would listen.

The story of Mei and Jun, and their journey with the sage, became a legend in the city, and people from far and wide would come to hear the story of the mother and child who were lost in the forest but found their way with the help of a wise sage and the boundless compassion of the universe.

Nowadays it is way safer to live in the forest.

I really love how you used this story to create the art. I think sometimes creating from legends or parables can help us understand their themes better too.

Thank you so much for your comment 😌

Yeah, what I'm trying to do, is to illustrate buddhist teachings. I mostly try to "use" Guan Yin for it. So when I log in into ChatGPT there is a chat wherein I am asking her a lot of questions about buddhism. And then I try to make a beautiful blog post out of it. I learn a lot about buddhism through that and also it's much nicer this way because learning everything from Guan Yin makes it much more interesting.

I definitely understand that. When we translate our understanding from one medium to another we immerse more fully. Usually for me it's writing about it but lately AI art is an interesting way too!
