Are they, friends or enemies?

Pests are nature's gift, they are found everywhere, and they are destructive both to humans and crops. Can we refer to them as friends? Reading through Wikipedia I got to know that pests shouldn't be referred to as friends to either humans or farm products. Pests have adverse effects on the economy because once they infested farm products they reduced their values and cause total damnation to the farmland. People might think they are friends because sometimes they serve as predators of smaller prey but in the process of this they aren't helping either, they only cause more damage.
On the other hand, pests offer ecosystem services such as soil-erosion protection and pollination services for the benefit of insects, pests can be part of the restorative cycle can we now refer to them as friends? Some of these pests are food makers, some compost, some recycle, some make silk, some filters, and some amend the soil. Pest reduces the quality of crop production, reduce crop values, pest destroy crops and plants, pest acts as disease vectors, and pest brings about an increase in the expenses of farmers. Pest brings total damnation to farmlands which might cause the farmers a loss because the farmland will be rendered useless unless it is properly treated.
What is your take on these natural gifts?
