Since the recent solar eclipse happened things have been developing very quickly over here! As many of you will know I have been busy starting a new ecoVillages project based on land we bought a few months ago in Portugal. Our mission is quite simply to make it possible for anyone who wants to live off-grid and self sufficiently to do so, in great luxury and independence, liberated from the entire paradigm of the centralised way of life.
Our mission begins with Phase 1 of the ecoVillages project. I have been designing an earthship that not only performs extremely well with little to no additional heating or cooling, but can also be built on a very small budget. Once we have accomplished this, we can then use everything we have learned and facilitate others to do the same.
When I say facilitate, I mean it with a Capital F. We will take on the entire build process for those people who do not want to get too involved in the daily grind of a self build. Every build is an opportunity to launch workshops and training, which will quickly expand our ability to build for several people at the same time. We will also take on the process of buying land, legal work, as well as taking people through the very challenging bureaucracy that is involved with visas, building permits, and a whole range of other issues.
There is much more of course, and that certainly includes the community side of this project. Our model is different to most ecoVillages, and you will notice our name does have an S on the end of it. If you have wondered why we are called ecoVillages and not ecoVillage it is because we want every person or group of people who live in the area to buy and own their own land, and to own their lives with complete security. Most importantly, no one should ever feel that they could lose the right to live in their home because of any social issues or differences of opinions. Our community is based on natural giving, and we will put a lot energy and time into fostering collaborations and trading. As an example, we will grow fruits and vegetables on our land and trade or give it to the local community. Whatever happens with the community, we see it as distinct and separate from building and living off-grid. The community will mean different things to different people.
So,. this update is so very special because YES, its true... I have just received a $37,000 USD injection to specifically get this first earthship model built. It is a significant amount of money, and in fact just in the right ballpark for what i call VERY cheap.. especially when you consider that it includes your heating and cooling systems, power, water, and even some fresh gown food... for life.. with almost no bills! It is my hope that I can get the roof on within this budget. If i can then that will be enough to showcase this home. It does not have to be furnished and finished or fully operational in order to achieve its goal. It just needs to be built so that we can prove the concept, test its performance and showcase it!
This is very exciting, and I will be doing everything i can to keep this project on this budget. I will have legal fees to deal with, especially to get the architect approvals and permits, but i can feel the flow and already know of two people building earthships in this very area so i don’t anticipate many big hurdles there.

If and when this project gains media attention you can be SURE I will be making many references to HIVE and the ways in which it has facilitated this project. ecoVillages is happening because of the people on Hive, and the very many different ways in which we can support each other. Once we are trading as a community it is my intention to use ECO as our community trading token, which will of course mean encouraging people to hold some of their money as ECO after buying some HIVE to get started. Having a decentralised currency is an important part of the new paradigm that we wish to promote, and Hive is a huge part of that!

This is really an amazing project, and an extremely important one considering the events going on in the world these days, which only seem to be getting worse. I look at this project as disrupting the entire "cost of living" industry, which really underlies almost everything in modern society and the enslavement of the general population of the world.
Most people focus on getting more money so they can keep buying things (which is what the "powers that be" want), but this project turns that on its head and asks the question of "do we really need more money?". Why do we need to spend so much on overpriced groceries with all sorts of chemicals in them? Why do houses cost so much? Why do we need to pay so much every month for heating, cooling, water, and electricity?
The answer, it seems, is that we don't, and @eco-alex has really opened my eyes to this fact. Plus, he's not only talking about it, but he's actually doing it, which is even more impressive.
I am doing what I can to help support the project and I highly encourage anyone else who is able to to do the same.
you said it matt! why do people choose to continue to live like that.. well i think finally more people have chosen not too.. and i personally have many friends who have lost businesses that they have spent their entire lives building.. They are ready for change, they are ready to come here and join us in this amazing new version of reality that seems to be emerging!

Thinking about cannabis in Portugal - any villages I will want to be a part of in my travels later (hopefully not too much later) in life I would want to see cannabis and hemp production. While cannabis was decriminalized in Portugal in 2001, there has also been pressure to legalize the flower including for sale and cultivation. I found a great article about it here. When the laws are finally set to the point where we can do it safely, I will happily come there to get you all the canna/hemp seeds you need, along with many other heirloom genetics for herbs and veggies. LMK any other way I can help brother. Shared to my b.

How wonderful @eco-alex! This is such a valuable project for these times and I wish you all the best in getting that first earthship model home off the ground and ready as a display model!
I think about the Ecovillages often and the bringing together of folks, empowering them to live selfsufficiently, off grid, disrupting the ever increasing cost of living!
I had thought of bringing more people on our land in the forest but couldn't see any great number living on the 45 acres for it would disturb the forest too much. Because of this project it did leave me open to bringing more people on our land and I now have my niece and her family (husband and 3 kids) moving here so we will have 3 generations living on the land. I see such strength in this combined family units (or community units) for more sustainable ways of living. We shall have the land far more productive than what I could do by myself.
So happy the build is about to happen!
