Due to its geographical location along the typhoon belt in the Pacific, the Philippines is prone to tropical typhoons, averaging 20 typhoons every year.
Thankfully, the Philippines is blessed with a mountain range in Luzon that serves as our natural shield. This mountain range weakens the typhoons from Pacific Ocean so they would be less destructive, before they reach the central mainland.
The Sierra Madre Mountain Range is considered to be the longest mountain range in the Philippines, spanning the 10 provinces in Luzon (Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna and Quezon), approximately 540 kilometers. It is also called "The Backbone of Luzon" for good reason, and our country's most biodiverse area. The name "Sierra Madre" is a Spanish term that means "Mother Mountain Range".
The photos were taken at Treasure Mountain, Tanay, Rizal in February 2020. We went there for an overnight camping and to experience the famous sea of clouds in the morning. Unfortunately, we weren't able to witness the sea of clouds, but the view of the mountain range was really worth watching for.
