Sending good thoughts your way to help buttress you in this time of difficulty. I come from a family of grifters, and being the responsible one in the family with a good heart, I finally had to cut them off. After years of being used as a "walking ATM" it dawned on me that they were taking but never giving.
I remember receiving a dozen "no" responses from siblings when I'd asked for rides. This from people I'd helped so much. Ending the charade of considering these "relatives" was freeing, and I've never looked back. I think we all know when our cup is filled to th brim, and have to decide on a course of future action.
I'm so glad you're looking out for the dog. It would be wonderful if some day he could be rescued from that situation. Seems like you two would make excellent companions for each other.
What a terrible situation to be in, man. I'm truly happy that you walked out and even happier that I've never had to experience something like that, despite what I wrote in this post. None of my siblings is actually selfish or conniving, but even the best person can screw up.
I'm actively ensuring that the dog finally gets some respite. The next step is for my sister to realize that he's got to go out regularly. I'll see how that goes. Thank you for your wonderful comment!
