Survival will depend on becoming self-sufficient so learn the skills

in ecoTrain2 years ago

If we want to survive the coming global shifts over the decade ahead, then we need to learn survival skills which focus on self-sufficiency and a life independent of government help or supermarkets for our food. The world’s political and economic systems are under a great reset and a shift of great proportions, by the look of it. Farms are being deliberately collapsed and food is becoming scarce. Governments will crumble under the financial shifts now under way. No one will be there to provide for us as the global supply chain slows down. Those who have independent food, water and energy resources will, however, survive and thrive.

Even if this is a worst case scenario, it pays to be prepared. People like me are becoming labelled extremists or dissidents because we can fend for ourselves. Conservative values and self-sufficiency are seen as threats to the new world order being implemented, or so it seems. Nevertheless, I recently went to visit a nearby Permaculture farm in order to learn some of the skills required to survive the food supply chain collapse as well as to avoid the new push to feed the world on insects.

Worm farming to facilitate rich soil

I would prefer not to eat insects protein, or crushed bugs and fake lab food substitutes. My tour of the Permaculture farm really left me feeling empowered. For example one of the systems we will benefit from is worm farming. Worms empower the soil so that it can produce better food crops. They will feed your soil and your soil will feed your plants which will, in turn, feed you. It’s a happy symbiotic system.

Other than that, we need to engineer our own power systems. Here in sunny South Africa we are already used to living with 8-10 hours a day of power cuts. Already the government can no longer provide our power as a nation. This has been going on for years and has been getting worse by the year. So we use solar power as a backup. It requires panels and batteries. With all the sun available here, we have better power than the government system right now.

Besides that, a donkey boiler works well to heat up water for winter baths. It simply requires a metal tank, like a geyser, and a little fire under it to heat the water inside. The farm I visited had this backup to their solar power and so multiple sources of power feed the farm quite well. Government power is not even used at all on the Permaculture farm. They are way ahead and have full power while the rest of the country sits with half the day in blackout mode, called “load shedding”. It will come to other nations around the globe in time to come, especially up north where the war is going on and energy is being fought over.

We can no longer rely on government handouts or the nanny state to feed and warm us. Those days are long gone here, so we are independent already. Even the water used on the Permaculture farm is totally from rain collection. No municipal water is used whatsoever. When the government no longer provides the energy, water, sanitation or refuse removal, then you are a sovereign state unto yourself. That’s how it is here.

Healthy greens make a decent salad filled with nutrients

And the powers that be don’t like it when you thrive without them. You are considered a dissident or a potential threat because you are beyond their control and manipulation. Well, here in sunny South Africa, we still have the room to live outside the box of government imposition, though for how long I can’t say. It may be similar or worse in your nation. But globally the system is crumbling and life will not be the same as it was in previous years.

Honey from the hive in the Permaculture garden

Bee keeping is also a handy skill on this Permaculture farm. The cultivation of flowers is a two way system where the flowers feed the bees and the bees pollinate the flowers. It makes for a sweet deal, where the flowers bring beauty and fragrance, while the bees provide honey as a substitute for cane sugar. Honey has become as valuable as gold in recent years, as global bee hives take strain under the invasion of pesticides and chemical invasion from toxic mass industrial farming.

The hive surrounded by fragrant flowers, a bee paradise for all concerned

Besides that there are also chickens which feed some folks with their eggs, though not all of us eat eggs. Add to that the skill which we all could use, namely building your own house. It’s not too expensive yet to buy off-cut planks here and to rig up a little shack to live in. This house in the photos was built by one man single handedly over a period of a few weeks. It’s that easy. Fortunately the climate is mild all year round here on the south coast of Africa. As a result it’s easy to keep warm, relatively speaking, as there’s no snow to worry about. Your conditions may be different of course.

My visit to the Permaculture farm was very uplifting and inspiring, leaving me hopeful and ready to set up my kingdom for myself while the world crumbles around me. I can’t simply give up and let the government take away my sovereign rights or my power, so I aim to empower myself, using alternative sources of energy, water and food supply. Wherever you are, do what it takes to become independent and self-sufficient. A last little tip is to cultivate community by banding together with like-minded souls so that you can defend yourself. As the government fails, we can’t rely on police or security forces to save us from threats. Team up and secure your sovereign state so that those who did not prepare can’t steal it from you.

You too can have your own house in a matter of weeks with minimum expense. It's easy when you have the land.

It’s common sense really, and something our ancestors did automatically, before the modern supermarkets and socialist nanny state took over in our various nations. These systems made us weak and we forgot how to survive, how to grow our own food and supply our own power. But those old common sense skills are now more crucial than before. It also empowers us psychologically to solve our own problems and tap in to the abundant power of nature which is all around us constantly.

So get ready and prepare yourself to be your own sovereign entity. Cryptocurrency and blockchain is part of that too, with its decentralized system. Add to that a resource-based economy and you will come out on top as the rest collapse around you. Now is the best time to prepare. Soon it might be too late.

Good words. enjoy the process.

Many thanks friend, one day at a time, while keeping the goal in mind.

It would be great to follow your work in progress

Inspiring to read this.

I might be in an appartment in a very small city, temporarily, I am still right next to the countryside and have plenty of people around me ( friends and acquaintances ) who are into permaculture and aiming for selfsuffiency etc.

Add to that living on crypto and my overall creativity and I'm not too worried.

Cheers from rural Portugal!

Hey there Vincent, great to hear your experiences in Portugal. You have a good balance there to keep you going nicely. Let's hope our crypto will help us keep our heads above water if there really is a coming storm.

yup, I am also sniffing out an alternative economy system ( Local Exchange Trading System ) that was active here, for some years, uptill 2017 ) and am organizing movie nights to get some Euros ( cash ) in, as long as they exist.

I'll just make sure to always have a Plan B and C ;<)

I have to learn so much around this, but I can only start doing once I permanently shift back home to India which now I am eagerly looking forward to

Worm farming is something I must investigate and get serious about soon!

Beautiful tour in your place, really inspiring !

I particularly liked the outdoor bath tub :)

Thank you for sharing and best wishes for the future 🌱

I love this!! So many great ideas here
