Earth is abundant.
Earth is everywhere.
And this technique of building earthen furniture, called cob, a combination of five ingredients: clay, sand, straw, water & human energy.
All the clay came from this very land and to make the perfect mix I added a bit of sand & straw.
Really the most "costly" factor was time. But, as we plan to spend many hours sitting on this bench for years to come ... I think it was worth the effort.
I hoped to write a whole tutorial on how to build with cob, but, the truth is I am learning as I go and experimenting along the way. At this time I am in no position to give guidance on the subject of natural building besides the inspiration to give it a try.
((Here I am testing out the bench with sister, Jana, and one our best friends, Emma))
As one wise builder once said "the mountains are made of clay and stone, and they do not dissapear after a rain".
I love this! Great work on the bench!
Thank you so much!! I am really happy how this turned out

good job !
I love the trees in the background. what a beautiful spot.
are they Ashes ??
Thank you!! In the background are oak trees and buckeye trees -- they are so lovely and make great shade almost all day.
I thought they were oaks by the bark, but the leaves tricked me.
is that in Argentina ? my guess i no..
The buckeye tree and the oak are all intertwined in that area so it is a little confusing. This isn't in Argentina, I am currently staying on somen family land in California (where I'm from).
Valió la pena el trabajo. Buen resultado/It was worth the work. Good result
Great job, very inspiring 😍
Has it rained already? How did it fare?
