It's another Saturday in the new month of April. I traveled to my hometown on the 31st of last month. It was a rough and stressful journey but I got home safely. All thanks to God.
I couldn't do anything that day. I woke up the next morning, did my morning prayer and brushed my teeth. I went outside to meet my cousin and sister as I heard them making breakfast at the back of my room.
They were trying to make Pap for the house. Grandma loves drinking pap every morning as that is what she needs as she keeps getting old. Then I saw this seed of Melon placed on the ground
My cousin explained that it is different from the normal melon we cook, but this particular one was from a vegetable leaf called "UGWU". I heard this melon made them visit the toilet many times in a day when they prepared it and ate.
Here is the tree where it is gotten from
I went round the surroundings and was amazed to see these plants growing.
These plants were very little as it was in January when I was still around, but now, they are taking care of all plants- all thanks to my Dad.
I saw these sticks which I asked what it was for? They were trying to protect the plants from animals that keep coming to eat and destroy them. There are some goats that come to eat the produce of farmers in the village. The king made a decree for all animal owners to tie their goats and not to go around destroying plants and trees.
The next day, I woke up and took a stroll down to the King's palace.
(King's house)
(The meeting palace for all Kings and chiefs)
The gas got finished in December last year which Grandma refused to refill because she prefers firewood to cook. That would be uncomfortable as I wouldn't want to prepare a little meal and would have to look for sticks to light the fire. I called the guy refilling for them and he came around later in the evening to help with 5KG which cost me ($8+)
My Dad called a carpenter and they both fenced the plants with sticks to protect them from goats eating and destroying it.
That's all for now
Goats are very stubborn animals. It's good as the king decreed that animals should be tamed under their owner's costudy. Though wood is good for cooking but it's also stressful making them together for the purpose of cooking. It's good you made it more easier by buying the gas as you did.
Wonderful nature and pretty awesome melon. Though it looks so strange to me because I'm used to both water melon and the normal melon for egusi soup. Do have an awesome moment over there and a safe trip back at the due time. Kudos @princessbusayo
Yes, we all know goats are stubborn and it is better to tame them down because they will continue to destroy plants if not taken care of. Also, it´s my first time seeing the ugwu melon as my cousin had to explain what it really meant for. Amen. Thank you so much for the prayer.
you're welcome friend @princessbusayo
It’s interesting to see how people live in different countries and under various circumstances. Your fence looks sturdy and I hope it fixes the problem. Goats, now that’s not an issue I would have thought could cause so much harm that the king needed to make a decree, but Im glad for your sake that he did. Thank you for posting in the EcoTrain ❤️💕🤗
Yes, the king took the right decision, if not, they would keep destroying people´s plants. Thank you
Imagine if you just wake in the middle of the night and you felt hungry, will you now be looking for stick to make the food 😂. Glad you later filled the gas
Exactly, my point. Thank you that you understood my reason for filling the gas 😆 At least the gas can only be used to warm a cold food or perhaps wanna make a fast meal that you shouldn´t just stress yourself arranging sticks
Yes o and trust me those grandma prefer stick to gas for their cooking 😅
Hummmn nice time again in the village. Why can’t you use firewood to cook? You Dey form tush girl abi 😂
🙄 So if I need anything to make urgently, I go use firewood abi especially when it rains 🤔
Inside the rain is the sweetest time to use firewood. Don’t you know? 😂
You went to the village to enjoy and have a nice time, not bad. Food cooked with firewood is sweet but na for person wey get enough time and energy shaa lol
Naso my sister. I do commend the efforts of my siblings who have been staying in the village and would use the firewood everyday, three times a day. It´s energy consuming.
What you called melon, it appears we call it fluted pumpkin in my place. I don't know whether they're the same. I just love your down to earth story. Thanks for sharing.
I still do not know it real name though. That must be the name you said which we call it another thing here. Thank you for reading.
