It's already mid-summer, so maybe I was too hopeful about my tomato plant.
Or was I?
The plant was growing well, there were 5-7 buds, two flowers were blooming, so maybe I was not hoping wrong to get some tomatoes this year from my balcony garden!
It's been a month, I planted this from seeds.
Just yesterday I had to uproot it because of the fungus attack. Root Rot Diseases, that's what I found from the net. It was raining a few days ago for a whole week, I could not manage any sunlight and the root got rotten.
To avoid any further spread of the disease to other plants, I had to uproot it.
Let me share from the beginning...
A few days old plant, from the seeds.
I planted it on a small pot, was not hopeful if it can survive. You know, taking care of vegetables on the balcony, giving them enough space and light is really hard. But as it was growing well, so I was hopeful.
When it starts to grow really well, I decided to replant it on a large plant.
Still, it was getting enough sun as you can see.
Buds!
Flowering!
Then the rain came. It lasts for almost a week, there was no sun, the soil got wet. And the plant starts to look blemish.
Uprooted the plant in the hope to cut the root and replant it.
But the flower is already spoiled.
And the plant doesn't look like it can survive.
So I had to throw it away.
As a balcony gardener, I got only a few plants; around 50. So losing a plant is very sad to me. I don't usually grow any vegetables, just some spinach, and herbs. Because they are easy to grow. I have a good amount of flowers and decorative plants. This was my first time trying tomatoes. But it doesn't go well.
So maybe I have to put aside my thoughts to enjoy organic vegetables from my balcony. Or maybe I need to learn more about how can I make this happen.
I'm hopeful though!
What a pity your balcony tomato...((
But you shouldn’t have thrown it!
If the root was rotten, it was possible to cut several trimmings from tomato stalks.
They take root well in water - it’s a ready-made seedling!
I had no experience on this so gave up. Next time I will keep this in mind.
Thanks 😊
Tomato plants need a lot of sunlight! I have had trouble in the past with growing tomatoes in the balcony, but don't give up, keep it in the sunniest spot and you'll get enough tomatoes for a few weeks.
I already thrown away the plant. Hopefully next time, as I have learned something by now.
Thanks 😊
Tomato plants can be very capricious, check the conditions of sun and shade on your balcony, the truth is that I have not been given either but maybe I will try again soon, I will read more about it, try again yourself too. Good luck.
It's usually sunny in my balcony but because of one week rain, it ruined this plant.
Nevermind I will try again.
Thanks for your information.

Too bad, the tomato plant was already looking so beautiful. Tomatoes don't like to be rained on. If it has been standing dry, I don't think it matters if it rains for a few days. But it has to be right next to the house, where it is covered. They like the sun best, of course. I have tomatoes right by the house where the roof is.
I had no option to place the pot like that. I will try next time.
Thanks 😊
