Sure, we could go to a beach and clean it up, or plant trees, or protest against corporate abuse, but if we return home to mindlessly watch TV for hours, mistreat our pets, scream at our partners and rant about our workplace, we're literally undoing with our feet what we've done with our hands.
These are the kind of thoughts that drove me crazy growing up. Nowadays obviously I’m working on re-contextualizing everything, but being the only one around me from maybe 6-15 years old and then being told I’m the one with a disorder…
I’m glad to see that there are more people questioning these things, I feel like 10 years ago you’d be met with only blank stares but now it’s completely different. It might be a minority but even if it is, it’s a very large minority that would be willing to listen to ideas like this, even if we only reach a few at a time.
I'm also happy to be able to express these opinions in a public context, it feels refreshing. And yes, I absolutely think that the minority is growing too, but I understand why it's not as fast-paced as we'd like, it's really difficult to questions these things for the same reason that I mentioned in my reply to your other comment: the assumptions provide security.
