EcoTrain Question Of The Week season 9.1: What does spirituality mean to me?

in ecoTrain3 years ago

For us to understand the word spirituality, let's get to know its origin . The word “spirituality,” is derived from the Greek noun pneuma, meaning spirit. Spirituality has to do with the recognition of a feeling or sense or belief that there is something more powerful than humans something greater than myself, something more to being human than sensory experience, and that the greater whole of which we are part is cosmic or divine in nature. Before the coming of Christianity, traditionalists believed that the spirit of the dead had supreme power over their lives, and they believed that every good and bad thing happening to humans or the community was coming from their ancestors' spirit ( spirit of the dead). According to them, the spirit of the dead has more spiritual power and can protect them more when human blood is offered to it, and that was how humans were being killed and sacrificed to the gods, believing that the more they do that the stronger they community becomes or luckily the community or people in the becomes.

Until the coming of Christianity ,which make human understand that they is a spiritual being greater than humans which can not being see by humans and does not need human blood to be sacrifice to Him before protecting and blessing humans, which is God Almighty the creator of heaven and Earth, which Christians believe that everything that happen to them and happen to comes God who the believe is the supernatural being. As much as Christians believe in the supreme nature of God, some Christians philosophers argue the existence of God. People like St. Augustine who argue, if God really exist , until one day He went to a River and sat down close to the edge of the river that was very big, close to the size of an ocean and was meditating about his usual question if God really exist, and as he was still meditating on it he saw a small boy of about seven years that dig a small hole beside the river, the boy will go to the river and fetch water in his hand and come and empty it inside the river , St. Augustine sat down and was looking at the boy as he was emptying the water, he fetch with his hand, in the small hole , after watching that for an hour he came the boy and ask him what he was doing, and the boy reply that he want to empty the whole of the water in stream into the small hole he dig there, st. Augustine after laughing at the boy, He ask how possible it is ,and the boy how possible is it for St. Augustine to think about the existence of God and know everything, when st.Augustine raise his head up,. He did not see the boy again, after that he never argued about the existence of God again, a belief that God exists and today due to his faith and spirituality, St. Augustine is regarded as a saint today in the Catholic Church. Looking at the traditional spirituality, Christianity spirituality and the story , I can. Say spirituality is the believe and trust of people over certain things.
