RE: Getting Back To 3D Printing

in 3D Printing3 years ago

Cool! That gets me thinking, I wonder what some good designs that would fit into an envelope are? Flat things are infinitely more shippable (especially across borders) than bulky ones. Then again, what use is 3D printing if you're just printing 2D items? But they wouldn't really be 2D, just less than say 3mm thick. What about something like a ruler, could it do that? Or along those lines, one of those stencil things, with letters and shapes, for tracing onto paper? I'm sure there are all sorts of things that aren't very thick. It must be fun to be able to form things yourself. Almost like a magical ability!

Oh yeah man, things like rulers and stencils are easy work on this machine :)
I have a bunch of bubble envelopes like 7 by 10 inch.

I could probably fit a good amount of things in bubble envelopes . I'll need to do a little research on the shipping into Canada, it might not be too bad because I'm only about an hour away from the border, but I am not sure how much of a difference that makes either.

This is one of the most popular sites for downloadable community designs. https://www.thingiverse.com/
You might find some things of interest in there :D

If you can think of some small things you could use, start making a list and we can get chatting through email if you want. [email protected]

This site is cool too, CAD design, designed for browser use , intended for beginners. https://www.tinkercad.com/

Can we print those little clamps that hold canna branches a certain way, for training? I forget what they're called. Croppers, or something.

Shipping from US to Canada in bubble envelopes is pretty darn cheap. Like $2 or less most of the time, unless it gets big or heavy. You guys have subsidized mail service there, very cheap.

Something like this?

I thought I saw @jonyoudyer with these Croppers you speak of. They bend the stalks right?

I could always emulate a design, it's probably pretty easy to recreate.

Those don't look like the ones I'm familiar with, but yeah, something like that. The stalk-benders, yeah! :))

I'm sure I saw those stalk benders in one of his posts bro. I'm going to need to find it and recreate it for print, because I remember thinking "I need some of those." when I saw them.

They would be easy and fast too, could probably print 5-10 per hour or more :D

And yes something like that, could stuff 20 of them in an envelope and it would still weigh barely anything and be relatively slim. I'm sure we can make it happen.

Yeah! Maybe you could start a casual side business out of it, even. Probably a market for it, especially if you can do it for a reasonable cost (power, filament, etc).
