3D Printed Drip System Parts

in 3D Printing3 years ago (edited)

Hello Everyone,

I recently finished an indoor garden drip system project and published a post about it on my main blog yesterday.

It turned out to be such a success that I decided to make another one today while taking photographs of the printing process of the parts and publishing them here on my 3D printing blog.

Let's have a look.

The cap for the bottle ended up working very well. The orientation of the print needed to be sideways to increase the strength of the threads. This is due to the direction of the print moves. Now the force will be in the direction of the layers, instead of pulling the layers apart. This makes it so that support material is needed, but it's a small price to pay for a print that will last longer due to being printed with the proper orientation in mind.

The link below the photos is the design this cap came from. It is the only part used from this design for my drip system.

This is the main bracket used to hold the water bottle. The design is for a pet cage, but it suits just fine for my needs as a drip system holder and the cap from the other design is a perfect fit!

This is the pole compression bracket I utilized for the tent rods. I needed to scale the model down to 61% in order for it to fit properly.

The rest of the components that I'll show all came from the same design on Thingiverse.

This piece is for the hose compression valve, and so are the next two components.

This small valve works surprisingly well and the threads are just right for fine tuning the flow to where it needs to be for a slow drip.

The last thing needed is the nozzle for this system to be complete. The nozzle is not even really needed for this drip system to work, but it gives it an aesthetically pleasing "complete" appeal in my opinion.

This little nozzle prints in about seven minutes on my Ender 3 V2. Unfortunately the little hole ends up fusing at the tip and I need to snip it off. I might have taken a little more than needed with this tip, but it will still work just fine and will look pretty cool when assembled. If it doesn't then I can just print another one since it's such a tiny amount of filament.

That will do it for today.

What do you ladies and gentlemen think of this 3D printed drip system? I would love to read your thoughts in the comment section below!

Your time is a valuable commodity and I always keep this in mind and do my best to respond to everyone. I appreciate all of the amazing engagement and support!

I am completely offended. You totally didn't tag me.

Well in that case I think I'm going to have to go throw 100% vote.

Yep.

Even though you didn't tag me I'm still voting and you can't stop me.

Excellent work and I'm seeing exactly how much effort even small parts are however I could totally just print everything I need and build my own hydroponic system.

Let me know when you want some more information on some of the recirculation systems that I have used. My plants always have water. It actually works surprisingly well.

I completely spaced out and forgot bro, then remembered as soon as I hit the post button, you were on it too. 😂

Thanks for the kind words and support man. Yes that's the great thing about the use of the 3D printers, you can make practically everything needed for entire systems. Larger parts like buckets and bins are easy to obtain and can be incorporated, it's really awesome.

I would love to know about the recirculation system. I plan to substantially increase my growing in the future and incorporate larger grow areas and hydroponics systems. It will just take a little time to get there.

Basically the same thing that you've got going on here you just run tubes over the pot and put a timer on it. Every little bit the pump turns on water goes through watering everything. Then it all drains. And the process starts all over again.

Soilless direct port hydroponic system.

Such an efficient method.
