Sculpture "The Prodigal Son" by Hans Hartmann-Mac Lean (1928)

This sculpture "The Prodigal Son" is located directly in front of the Heilig-Geist-Kirche in the Berggartenstraße in Dresden Blasewitz. It was created in 1928 by Hans Hartmann-MacLean (1862-1946) and financed by the Hermann Ilgen Foundation. Interestingly, the sculptor from Dresden, who attended the Dresden Annenschule and studied at the Dresden Academy of Art from 1879 to 1885 and has been an honorary member of the Academy since 1900, had already created a marble sculpture called "The Prodigal Son" for Villa Ilgen in 1885, which, however, is considered lost. The sculpture shown here is a work in sandstone by the artist, which he created 43 years after his first work and which is also considered his last work.
