How greed affected a man's reputation.

in Ladies of Hivelast year

There is something that greed can do to a person's reputation that isn't nice at all, I experienced how someone who used to be a very respected person was humiliated today, and I said to myself, he would have simply avoided this by being a straightforward person/sincere person. Let me tell you the story my friends, so together we will be able to judge the matter at hand.

There is a house opposite where I reside filled with students, it is about 20 room self-contained apartment which made it possible for 20 different residents to live there, some even have roommates so they actually could be more than that, there are about three shops in front of the house as well and at the end of every month, each room resident is supposed to pay 3,500 Naira as electricity bill on a monthly basis, while the shop owners are to pay 5,000 Naira for electricity every month. So at the end of the month, we should be having around; 85,000 Naira on a monthly basis for electricity fees. The owner of the house is not based in Nigeria so he actually put his younger brother there and gave him access to a shop for his dry cleaning business free of charge.

Residents and shop owners paid their electricity fee every month to the landlord's brother, anyone who refused to pay on time would have his light disconnected, so it was very shocking when the officers in charge of electricity came around today and pointed out that the house had not paid any electricity fee since February, that means they have only paid electricity fee once since the beginning of this year, without waiting for any explanation their light was disconnected immediately. The residents of the house trooped out in their numbers to demand an explanation from the Landlord's brother who said to only had 21,000 Naira in his bank account and nothing more than that.
According to what I heard, he didn't even need to remit the entire money to the pockets of the power holding company every month, he just needed to remit half of the money, but because of greed, he decided to take it all for himself.

The young minds who are residents of the building are totally disappointed by his act, the make matters worse, he has a dry cleaning shop where his major customers are residents of the house and with this act, I really don't think he has so much customers left as they have vowed to stop partonizing him. This is actually highly disappointing and I feel he just put himself in this serious disrepect and state as a result of greed.

Hello @bimbo45. I must say this is a classic case of greed taken to another level. When a person takes another person's money, then does not live up to his end of the bargain and keeps the funds for himself or whatever purpose, then that person is not only greedy, but also untrustworthy. It would have been a devastating turn of events if someone lived in the apartment who needed the electricity to be on full-time for medical purposes.

The residents should be able to report him to the brother so that the brother knows what is happening.

A sad turn of events.

Thanks for sharing this story. Take care.
