Ozempic Journey Week 4: WhoopWhoop! Smashing It!

in Ladies of Hive3 days ago (edited)

Wow! Well, the results are in for my last week on the lowest dose and I'm 2 kgs down!

I walked into the doctor's office at the end of November, feeling like an ugly monster or, I suppose related to how Fiona from Shrek felt about her Ogre Alter Ego at first before she started to be kind to herself.

I freaking love that movie so much. It's about having a good laugh and taking a poke at societal norms, ageism, sexism, racism, gender equality, gender diversity, self-acceptance, gender norms, and of course our own beloved fairy tales. It's the most incredible movie about self-acceptance and I will never ever forget how I felt when I walked out of the cinema in 2001 (GOD I'M OLD 😂😜). I had not laughed so much in a movie since... well, I can't even remember, to be honest. Mike Myers is just a genius.

It's also the best poke at fairy tales since Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes, which I used to know all the words to off by heart! We'd often perform Snow White or Red Riding Hood, etc. for our drama club or for the entire school! It's amazing how humor gets us out of our shells and feeling less self conscious about ourselves.

They also say that laughter burns calories!

AAAAAANYway, now that we have gone WAY off topic, let's get back to this week.

So I was once again very pleasantly surprised by my weight loss this week. As I was saying about my visit to the doctor, with my mom in tow (who tends to be super critical of my weight even when I'm healthy), I was there because I had nowhere else to turn. My weight had spiraled out of control as I got lost in a cycle of emotional eating and hiding under the bedclothes.

Since my knee injury, I picked up 25 kilos. 15 of which were this year alone. I needed help.

So, I had to jump at the opportunity when my mom offered to help with my knees and my unsolvable pain, and I started doing some serious research into Ozempic. A peptide that healthy bodies make and unhealthy bodies are deficient in, is the most simple way I can describe it. It's like giving insulin to a diabetic.

Ozempic has improved my energy levels, quality of sleep, and anxiety. I could be going out on a limb here, but I believe Samelgutide (what Ozempic, Saxenda, and all these similar drugs are made from) is capable of promoting healing in the body through proven anti-inflammatory properties. I swear, my stability in my knees has never been better, and I can only attribute that to healed ligaments. Is it possible to attribute this to Ozempic? I am not sure, but I definitely feel it.

Unfortunately, Ozempic isn't affordable. It's expensive. That means it's not available to a huge group of people who may need it most. Like me perhaps, struggling with mobility and therefore finding it impossible to live in a calorie deficit.

But anyway, I could go on about this for ages. The bottom line is I have lost 8kgs since that day that I walked into my doctor's office. I did have the help of a horrible tummy bug: where I lost 12 kgs but it was all water so I gained it all back immediately, however, I did manage to maintain the loss of four kgs. The other four kgs are thanks to Ozempic! And I was taking the lowest dose possible.

Yesterday, I moved up to the 0.5mg dose. I realized you need quite a bit of thumb strength to push the syringe down, a bit too late. I was injecting it into my upper arm (so I can really see what I'm doing). Next time I will have to jab my thigh or tummy since I am more confident about what I am doing now. I lost a little bit of liquid as I pulled out the syringe, which is, of course, heartbreaking considering the price! It really was a tiny amount though.

Later in the day, I went to go visit my favorite clinic nurse for my neurobion, and she advised me that I should leave the needle in place for at least 6 seconds after the final click and the syringe has been completely depressed. This will avoid any loss of the medication in the future.

So here we have my weight tracker:

And my measurement tracker:

And I must say I am super thrilled with my progress in both!

As far as side effects go, yesterday afternoon, as I came to have a lie down and finally eat something, I was overwhelmed with nausea and even had a bit of a runny tummy. This only lasted a few hours though. I am right as rain today. I guess the side effects are a sure sign that I did actually get the needle in and delivered the stronger dose.

I'll let you know how I go!
