I was in SS1 when my Mom just got me my first browsing phone, it was during the era of 2go, and I was so excited to chat with my friends online. One day, while navigating through different rooms I met a guy named Timi on one of the platforms, we stated talking, and I quickly became drawn to him. I was always eager to be online because of him, we gist and talk about different things and topics. I got to know he resided in Ilorin while I was in Ogun State. That’s a lot of distance apart.
This made our friendship grow stronger, we exchanged contacts and like that, we graduated from the school of charting to the school of calling. I found friendship in him and didn’t think it more than that. He just finished his SSCE when we met. He shared his dream for the future With me.

When we are not online chatting, then we are on the phone. My pocket money is no longer for eating junk but for buying data. My Mom often complain about our relationship, but I make her realize he is just a friend. Everything I pray for in a friend I found it in him. He helps with my academics and encourages me to do the impossible, he also helps me to develop personally and spiritually, to pray about everything, and to believe God can do it. I like everything about him. Though at times he could be a bit boastful.
After two years of online friendship, during my final year in secondary school. We were discussing one night, and he said he would love us to move this friendship to another stage and that he likes us to be more than being friends. He loves me!
Something in me was scared of losing him, if we start this relationship hope our story will not end with heartbreak. That made me reject the offer, I prefer us being friends, I said. Didn’t fully understand love at that time. My female friends never get anything good out of it, but heartache.
Things got awkward between us for some time after his confession, but we got back to our usual selves as time flew. We are now good.
After some months, he introduced me to his girlfriend. It was the girl’s birthday, and I was happy for her, but I was not happy for myself. I was jealous of now sharing him with someone. Unfortunately, shortly after that, I couldn’t reach him again. Given the distance, I was unable to reach him through anyone.

During this period of silence, I realized something had happened to me. I’m in love, I miss him. He occupied my thought every day and I pray nothing bad happens to him. One day, a strange number called me, answering it, I realized he was the one. I was the happiest person on earth. He lost his phone and called he immediately he got a new one. I felt I was provided another opportunity but realized, his relationship with his physical girlfriend is a serious one. Their plan was till death do us part.
On a faithful day, thinking about it all. I called him and told him about my feelings and my decision to end the friendship for his own good, because I wanted the best for him. He didn’t agree, but that was my decision and it was a final decision. I deleted everything about him but kept a photograph. That was the end. We never meet in person.
Looking back was my decision wrong?
Did we have a chance of meeting in the future?
Have moved on, but I will never forget him. I believe he is doing well out there somewhere.
