1️⃣ It’s the season! From Halloween to the other holidays, food is at the center of it all. Whether it’s main dishes or treats like desserts and candy, the variety never ends. How do you deal with abundance and avoid overeating? Or do you? What tips can you offer to keep it under control?

I used to have no food restrictions. Unless I was sick, had no appetite, or had a shortage of food, I used to eat without restrictions and at any time.
At Christmas I was surprised by my stomach's ability to withstand so many excesses.

Antes no tenía limitaciones con la comida. Salvo que estuviera enferma, sin apetito, o escasearan los alimentos, solía comer sin restricciones y a toda hora.

Traditional dishes like hallaca, pork leg, ham bread, desserts and drinks. I gobbled it all up and felt guilty when I gained weight.

That changed a little over a year ago, when I started to feel an upset stomach that increased until I felt no relief in any position.
The attacks were repeated and my children and husband took me to the doctor last May.
After all the tests were done, I was diagnosed with a lot of things. I was prescribed medications and recommended drip enemas, as well as lots of water and a diet low in fat, grains and refined products.

Eso cambió hace poco más de un año, cuando empecé a sentir un malestar estomacal que fue en aumento hasta que no sentía alivio en ninguna posición.
Las crisis se repitieron y mis hijos y esposo me llevaron al médico en mayo pasado.

Today I feel much better, I drink more water and eat papaya almost every day. I have improved my habits and I hardly eat between meals.
I wonder what I will do when I have all those delicacies in front of me. Maybe by taking good care of myself now I will be able to enjoy the special end-of-year menus in peace.

Hoy me siento mucho mejor, bebo más agua y como lechosa casi a diario. He mejorado mis hábitos y casi no como entre comidas.
Me pregunto cómo voy a hacer cuando tenga todas esas delicias delante de mi. Tal vez cuidándome mucho ahora pueda disfrutar tranquila de los menús especiales de fin de año.

We used to put up the Christmas tree and the rest of the decorations around December 15th. Now, as time seems to pass more quickly, we do it at 1st..

There are neighbors who decorate early, splurge on lights and buy new decorations every year. We, on the other hand, store everything and take it out again the following December. After all, nature tells us when the holidays are approaching.

Hay vecinos que decoran antes, derrochan en luces y compran adornos nuevos cada año. Nosotros, en cambio, guardamos y volvemos a sacarlo todo el siguiente diciembre. Después de todo la naturaleza nos avisa cuando se acercan las festividades.

I understand the food issues. I too have changed my way of eating and am wondering how I'm going to approach the season this year. I'm trying to form a plan now, lol!

Everyone seems to be in the mood for Christmas early this year which I think is good! I love your photos of poinsettias growing in their natural habitat. I've never seen that before; here, they are always in pots because they generally don't survive. I know I've never been able to keep one alive until the next Christmas season!

Hi, the same thing happened to me when I tried to preserve Christmas plants. No matter how many experts recommended they ended up wilting. This one, which we have planted in the ground, came from a cutting from a neighbor's plant. I think it is a more resistant subspecies. Hi @elentogether! I won't call this a 'diet' because it is a lifestyle change. I haven't really eaten healthy pretty much my entire life. Lately, having not enough time to really cook plus a 'kitchen' challenge of not having a real stove, it's been too easy to grab prepackaged food and just microwave dinner! Not a good thing with all the additives they tend to put in all that stuff.

So, I'm trying to eat more whole foods and if it's prepackaged, a healthier version. I've really started paying attention to what the labels say and trying to 'clean up my food act' accordingly.

It is working; I've lost 18 pounds since July in just doing this. I am happier and feel much better than I have in a long time. I want to live to a ripe old age and the road I was on was not helping me to try to achieve this.

As for the Poinsettia, they wouldn't survive in the ground here anyway, so as a potted plant is the only way it might. Thus far, I've failed miserably , lol!

Hello @elizabethbit, I congratulate you and am very happy that you have changed your eating habits and lost weight. It requires a great deal of willpower to achieve this, in my case I did it out of necessity because several times I thought I was going to die.
