LOH 214: A SYMPHONY IN MY HEART

It’s so strange that despite how much I enjoy listening to different songs, I always still find myself struggling with most part of the lyrics. To me, sometimes I just want to enjoy the artist sing the song and just focus on getting the message from it and other times, all I want to do is learn the whole lyrics of the song just so I can always sing along with it or sing it when I’m alone and I feel like singing.

Luckily for me, I have a manageable singing voice, so I always see the need to know the lyrics of those songs I enjoy listening to and so far so good, there are so many songs I know how to sing from the start to the end without relying on anything. But then, there are also, so many songs that I can’t sing most of their lyrics but I play them, just for listening.

As someone who appreciates good music (music with good lyrics) I have mostly found interest in learning hymnal songs. I enjoy singing hymns a lot and because of that, I always try to memorize most of the stanzas in my brain, just so I don’t have to always rely on the hymn book all the time to sing them. I guess this is as a result of the fact that I most times have to sing hymns whenever I gather with the brethren.

One of those hymns I have been able to memorize and I can hardly ever forget, is titled “I love my Saviour too”. When they say, practice makes perfect, I believe that is how it is because never for once did I intentionally try to learn the lyrics of this hymn but then, I can sing all three stanzas without looking at the hymn book. This is because, we most times sing this hymn when we gather together for worship and I always enjoy the song.

Also, one more song I have gotten to memorize is titled “Blest be the ties that binds”. This song is one hymn that always gets me emotional especially after every fellowship with the brethren. I have always heard people singing this song since I was a child and I also got to learn the lyrics without even knowing it. It also has 3 stanzas and they are not so hard to memorize and I guess that is why it came easy for me.

When it comes to music, I always prefer learning or memorizing the lyrics subconsciously by listening to it as much as possible because I believe that by so doing, I can hardly even forget the lyrics. It will find a comfortable space in my subconscious mind that anytime when I want to sing it, it just comes out freely and fluently. I have done this for most songs I know today and it works really well. Although, there are some songs I know today that I had to force myself to learn the lyrics but today I can’t boast of singing it accurately.

Like I said, music wordings shouldn’t be forced if we want them to stick for a long time. But then, there are some times when we just have to memorize some songs especially as singers or artists, just so we can be able to present them well but that won’t give us a guarantee of us knowing it for a long time. But it doesn’t matter as long as you get the results you wanted.

This is my response to the second topic for this week’s ladies of hive contest on “What songs have you completely memorized?” Thanks for reading through. ❤️

@hopestylist you have good singing skills. I also love to enjoy music, but it rarely happens I have not sung that song later. We should first enjoy music and then articulate it with our soul.

I agree with you, Aslamrer.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. 🥰

You have a manageable singing voice? Come to my front first, this baby.
You love music and everything that has to do with it, so it is not surprising that you care about lyrics. Even when the ding is difficult to memorize, I'm sure after listening to it several times, you'll get a hand of the lyrics.

I have a few songs that I have completely memorized. I didn't sit down one day, and mastered the lyrics. Nope, the lyrics got stuck in my head after years of singing the songs.

Thanks for sharing, love.

Yay!!!
Good morning, my love. 🤭

Come to your front? No! 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

Yeah, I guess most of us have songs that we know today that just somehow sticks even without us intentionally memorizing them.

Thanks for reading through and leaving your comment. ❤️
