LOH220 || Active breaks, to get away from...

A sedentary lifestyle.

There is something very studied in occupational medicine and I have been practicing it for many years, called active breaks are short breaks that are taken during the working day to reduce sedentary lifestyle and improve the health and performance of workers, including the work we do from home.

Since the pandemic I have been doing it because I advise for the company that I represent various extension activities at the University where I am a university professor of the postgraduate program.

I spend many hours in front of my mobile and computer screen, to that I add other activities such as writing daily at Hive, where I am (annual author) for the second consecutive year.

To the various jobs that I do from the home office I also add doing squats to pick up things, pull, push, shake, hang, stand for a long time, go up and down stairs, etc

Some of the advantages of active breaks are:

Reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Improve cognitive ability.

Decrease in absenteeism at work.

Prevent musculoskeletal disorders.

They fight stress.

They reduce fatigue.

Some activities that can be performed during an active break are: Walking, Going up and down stairs, Stretching with push-ups, desk squats, heel lifts, jumping the invisible rope.

It is recommended to take active breaks every hour and a half. The secret to avoid a sedentary lifestyle is warming up and stretching to prevent discomfort, injury or stiffness of limbs.

Ohhhh, and never forget the contemplation even if it is through the window to connect with nature.

When I go for a walk, I don't use headphones to listen to anything. I get into the contemplation of colors, chiaroscuro, birds, laughter that I have explained before in other posts, that's why I like to walk in the park and not in the gym.

When I finished, I stretched out on bars and I do functional exercises with my body weight and finally I relax lying on my back on a bench connecting with my breathing.

It's a simple routine, but it works for me to feel good, pain-free, flexible and makes me happy, @merit.ahama.
