Service for Women (Medical Mission)

It was our second time conducting a medical mission this year with the help of our local partners. My co-workers and I were well-prepared, having learned from our previous medical mission.

It was different from other medical missions as we provided services to women and children who were victims of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. The activity was planned a month in advance, and the team collaborated to develop a program for the beneficiaries. During team meetings, it was decided that all doctors and health workers would be women, considering the sensitivity of the beneficiaries. The medical mission included general check-ups, ob-gyn check-ups (Obstetrics and gynecology), and psychosocial activities for both children and adults.

I work in a non-government organizationn. After graduating from college and get my license as a registered social worker, my professor referred me to apply for a position within the organization. Without prior knowledge of the office, I took the opportunity. All the workers in the organization are women, as the cases they handle are sensitive.

I decided to give it a try and applied, and luckily, I was hired and designated to organize vulnerable children to prevent them from different forms of abuse. It was a great experience as I learned a lot from the children. The organization also helped me develop as a social worker, and later on, I got the chance to work with women and children involved in prostitution and victims of human trafficking. I found it challenging since the cases were very sensitive and complicated. I remember my first case involved trafficking in persons for the purpose of child labor and sexual abuse. I was thrilled, and my youthful enthusiasm motivated me to help the victims. I provided assistance to the victim after she was rescued and intervened in her case. It was fulfilling to help, even in a small way.

It was my 10th year working with women and children, and I am happy to continue working with them. The medical mission also helped us serve women and children in need of medical attention, as most of them cannot afford to visit doctors for check-ups or purchase medicines due to their conditions. The medical mission not only focused on health but, with the assistance of our local partner, the beneficiaries provided free medicines, reproductive health check-ups, general check-ups, food, toys, and psychosocial activities for children and women. The psychosocial activities had a positive impact on the adults, as they were able to express their worries and find relief after participating. The entire team worked hard to ensure the success of the medical mission.

As we evaluate the outcome of the medical mission, our local agency partners have committed to supporting us in the medical mission twice a year, ensuring good service and continuous improvement. The hard work of the team has paid off.♥️
