Ah, the roller coaster of life.
When I'm up, my creativity is flowing like a river swollen in spring. When I'm down, I have to fight the urge to crawl in a cave and hide myself and my creations from the world.
But I'm a lioness and a dragon rider. I don't hide. Not for very long, anyway. π
You don't have to be an artist or writer to get caught in the claws of self-doubt. Imposter syndrome catches many of us off guard from time to time (sometimes more often than not). It hits me hard when I least expect it, an uninvited guest I try to evict as soon as possible.
When the world shakes my foundations and it feels too scary or stressful to move forward, I take a moment in the here and now to settle into gratitude.
And when imposter syndrome strikes, two things help:
- I revisit the reviews from people who have loved my books.
- I think about so many amazing artists whose work has been torn apart by critics, and have persevered despite the haters.
Even imposter syndrome can't keep my creativity at bay, something I'm extremely grateful for. I mean, some authors suffer from writer's block. Not me. I have more ideas than I have time in the day. A blessing, to be sure.

Hitting it on the head. I cringe when I think of my early writing attempts at writing a fictional story or a simple blog but one does grow. It's so important to have encouraging voices to keep one going.

Ha! That lioness is a statue at the New Orleans zoo on Monkey Hill, which is, I do believe, the highest point in NOLA. Thank you for reading my book! I hope you enjoy it, and settle in nicely now that you're home.
There is another lioness statute way closer to you. Only a couple hundred miles mostly south and a bit east. :)

I've had no idea of this syndrome so far but I think I have it too :( however, I was just reading last night how important it is to keep yourself busy with creative actions in order to move on faster from any dark mood. You are strong, you know that girl! β€οΈ

My sweet dragon princess. I have been battling discouragement and motivation. I have mot been in my best physical shape and it all kind of drag me down now that I need to think of my art as a way of living when I have never been able to market it. Everyday I get messages of, this deserves more views, or I love your work but that rarely translates in moving forward and damn I feel old. So I feel maybe my moment just passed me by. So I am inspired but lacking motivation to finish things, but also I think myself as a warrior and shall continue my fight to be "me"
I hear you, my friend. Loud and clear. Those feelings are hard, and valid, AND I don't think anything has passed you by. I think every creation you've offered into this world has been worth it, and you are SO BEAUTIFUL, inside and out. Keep going. I believe in you.
