I do admire their simple and slower lifestyle, I'd wear black but I won't part with my smartphone. My long time roommate is from a Mennonite background indirectly related to the Mennonite community living on Vancouver Island, and quite similar in many ways to the Amish.

Cool, yes, there is a lot to admire in their lifestyles, but I also know their version of Christianity is quite constricting to many who end up leaving the community. Sort of sad, really.
In Northern Wisconsin, we had a lot of Mennonites as well. There are some of both communities here in Upper Michigan, but I don't see them so much.
