Introduction
What sets Chaos Dragon apart is its ability to bypass Taunt monsters. This gives it a big advantage in certain Rules of Combat like Fog of War. Chaos Dragon is a monster that fits into many strategies and makes battles exciting.
However, Chaos Dragon does come with its challenges. Its high mana cost mean you need to build your team carefully but when used well, it can be a game changer.
Chaos Dragon has 4 magic damage and 4 speed making it a strong offensive monster. It has decent armor and health but you want him to survive long, so he’s best paired with a tanky front line. This card shines in battles where he can just unleash his blast magic damage each time.
The Scattershot ability is what makes Chaos Dragon special. It allows it to hit random targets which works great with its high magic damage and Blast ability. These stats make it an amazing choice in many battles.
Flying: [Defense] Non Flying monsters that attack this card has their maximum hit chance reduced by 25% during that attack.
Scattershot: [Target Modifier] The attack priority of this monster's attack is changed to "Random monster on the opponent's side."
Blast: [Damage] When this monster attacks, monsters beside the target gets half of the damage. The nature of the damage is based on the attacking monster's attack type.
Blind: [Stat Modifier] [Negative Status] As long as this monster is alive, all opponent monsters get Blinded status. Blinded monsters have reduced max hit chance of 15%.
Pros
- High stats. Chaos Dragon’s magic damage is one of the best in the game. Its speed also allows it to attack early in battles, giving your team an edge.
- Magic damage with Blast ability and Scattershot ability. The combination of Blast and Scattershot is incredibly strong. It counters Protect ability by bypassing armor and spreading damage across multiple monsters.
- Good against melee. Chaos Dragon has both Blind and Flying abilities that are really good against melee monsters. I normally use her at the back to counter possible melee Sneaks because of these two abilities.
Cons
- High mana cost.Chaos Dragon requires 14 mana cost which makes it hard to use in low-mana battles. This limits its flexibility in certain situations and makes him perfectly unplayable in any battles lower than 20 mana.
- Dragon Splinter. While Dragon Splinter is good most of the times, sometimes, it is bad because you are forced to use Dragon summoners to use the Dragon monsters.
- Exiting set. This is a bit of a stretch because I can't find any more negative for using Chaos Dragon. However, on the first quarter of 2025, a new set will be released and Chaos Legion will be pushed out of Modern Ranked Format and will be unusable. He is really strong even in Modern standards so Chaos Dragon being pushed out of Modern Ranked format is such a waste and disappointing.
Fog of War |
Removes the Snipe, Sneak and Opportuniy abilities for this battle.: Scattershot still works in Fog of War Rules of Combat giving Chaos Dragon a big advantage.
Earthquake |
All non-Flying monsters on the board takes 2 melee damage at the start of every round: Chaos Dragon’s Flying ability makes it immune to Earthquake damage keeping it safe while others take damage.
Wands Out |
During this battle, only monsters with magic damage type are allowed: Chaos Dragon’s Scattershot ability bypasses Void tanks, making it perfect for Wands Out Rules of Combat. |
Counterspell |
All monsters on the board gains the Magic Reflect ability that inflicts half the damage to any monsters with magic damage attacking this monster: Magic Reflect is a big problem for Chaos Dragon since its Blast ability also deals magic damage. This can backfire and hurt your Chaos Dragon a lot in one round. |
|
Aimless |
All monsters on the board gains the Scattershot ability that changes the targetting mechanics of monsters with Range and Magic damage to "Random opponent.": Chaos Dragon already has Scattershot, so it doesn’t benefit from Aimless Rules of Combat. This makes the rule less impactful for your team. |
|
Weak Magic |
Monsters on the board can use their armor to block an opponent's magic damage. This has the same effect as Void Armor: Scattershot still works in Fog of War Rules of Combat giving Chaos Dragon a big advantage. |
Djinn Oshannus |
The Void ability of Djinn Oshannus is a good combo with Chaos Dragon during Wands Out rule of combat since all he needs is a durable tank and Chaos Dragon will carry the game.
Baakjira |
Baakjira is just an example but any monster with either Slow or Swiftness abilities are good help with Chaos Dragon. Speed makes him attack earlier and his high damage can kill most of the monsters if they are low leveled.
Raa |
Raa is another high damage monster with Scattershot ability. He's a good monster to complement Chaos Dragon in doing that random team damage that can bypass Taunt monsters. |
This game is pretty simple. I have Chaos Dragon to slay the whole opponent's team while Cursed Windeku and Venari Bonesmith tries to delay the fight.
Lineup
Quix the Devious
A good summoner compatible with Chaos Dragon due to the slow. It gave more leeway for my team to act first and eliminate someone quickly reducing their overall team damage.
Cursed Windeku
A reliable Death Splinter tank. The Heal ability and high health complements each other.
Venari Bonesmith
Low mana cost monster with Life Leech and Poison ability. Life Leech can delay the battle as he gets more health while Poison increases the overall damage for your team.
Chaos Dragon
One of the strongest Dragon monster in the game. The Scattershot and Blast ability on a magic damage is very insane that I don't know why players don't use him a lot more.
Since the opponent used full melee team, my Blind and Thorns ability is at its utmost value. I also have level advantage than my opponent making my team stronger than tem despite having less number. Basically, my team counters their team and is the reason for the easy win.
Chaos Dragon is one of the most exciting monsters in Splinterlands. Its unique abilities and high damage make it a favorite among players.
The card has both strengths and weaknesses, depending on the battle rules. It works best in high mana battles and specific Rules of Combat.
When paired with the right team, Chaos Dragon can dominate the battlefield. Players should consider its mana cost and compatibility when building their lineup.
