Introduction
This monster’s strength lies in its ability to endure heavy damage and protect the rest of the team. While it might not deal massive hits, its durability make it stand out in any battles.
This card is great for teams that focuses on defense or using support monsters that uses Tank Heal and Triage. When combined with the right cards, Wave Brood can be that mighty tank you need as you slowly whittle your opponent's health.
Wave Brood is an 8 mana monster from the Water Splinter with impressive base stats. It has 2 ranged damage, 1 speed and a massive 14 health and good abilities. Its role as a tank is further amplified by its ability to endure attacks with its Void ability and high health. The high health makes him a good target for your monsters with Triage ability as Wave Brood sits at the back absorbing damage.
Wave Brood's best ability would be Taunt. Taunt is a good ability when the monster has high health since all the restoration for it will be high as well. It's true with The Kraken, Iziar and now, Wave Brood.
Taunt: [Defense] [Target Modifier] Opponent's monster will be forced to attack this card, if possible.
Close Range: [Atack Modifier] This ranged monster can attack while in 1st position.
Void: [Defense] Monsters with Void ability reduces the incoming magic damage by half. If the damage is 1, before the effect applies, the damage is negated and becomes 0.
Return Fire: [Defense] [Damage] Any opponent's range monster that attack this monster will take melee damage back by half the amount.
Pros
- High Health unit with Taunt ability. Its high health synergizes perfectly with abilities like Tank Heal and Triage. This lets Wave Brood survive longer, making it an excellent shield for your team.
- Can attack from any position. Thanks to Close Range, Wave Brood can deal damage from the backline or as a frontline tank. This flexibility ensures it’s always contributing whether he is in the 1st position or at the back.
- Good against magic damage. Void ability halves every incoming magic damage allowing Wave Brood to become a reliable pick in matches where opponents rely or may use a lot of magic damage.
Cons
- Low speed.Wave Brood’s low speed makes it easy for opponents with melee and range damage to land hits on it. It struggles against monsters with high melee or ranged damage that bypass its Void ability.
- Low damage. Its low attack power means it’s not suitable as a carry monster. It’s more of a defensive tank than an offensive threat.
- No armor. No armor means nothing to soak the high range or melee damage. Monsters like Uriel the Purifier can easily kill him with a little help from another monster.
: Armored Up gives Wave Brood some armor that helps him against big melee or range damage. This also unlocks Repair ability to be used for him.
Reverse Speed |
The effects of speed becomes the opposite. Monsters with the least Speed also attack first and has highest chance to evade an attack: Its low speed becomes a strength in Reverse Speed Rules of Combat allowing it to attack first and evade more attacks.
Equalizer |
The Max Health of all monsters on the board will be equal to the Max Health of the monster with the highest max health: Wave Brood’s high health is a huge advantage in Equalizer Rules of Combat where every monster gets the same max health. You can use low mana cost monster to increase their health a lot making everyone a tank. Water Splinter has one of the most Triage and Tank Heal in the game making them a threat if you chose your strats to revolve about sustain. |
Even Stevens |
Only monsters with even mana cost are allowed during this battle: You can use Wave Brood as normal but you cannot use the two most compatible monsters with Triage with him. |
|
Aimless |
All monsters on the board gains the Scattershot ability that changes the targetting mechanics of monsters with Range and Magic damage to "Random opponent.": Aimless Rules of Combat gives everyone Scattershot ability which ignore Taunt abilities. This negates one of Wave Brood’s main strengths. Without the ability to redirect attacks, its value drops significantly. |
|
Ferocity |
All monsters do double damage to opponent's monster that has Taunt ability: Armored Up gives Wave Brood some armor that helps him against big melee or range damage. This also unlocks Repair ability to be used for him. |
Angelic Mandarin |
Triage and Silence abilities make Angelic Mandarin a great partner for Wave Brood. Silence reduces incoming magic damage which stacks well with Void ability for better durability.
Spirit Hoarder |
Spirit Hoarder’s Triage keeps Wave Brood alive longer while its backline keeps doing damage. It’s a simple but effective combo for Wave Brood.
Merdaali Guardian |
Merdaali Guardian’s Tank Heal ability makes Wave Brood a strong frontline choice instead. With Tank Heal, this opens up the option for Wave Brood to be a tank in the frontline instead of at the back. |
This team is very balanced. All of your opponent's monsters will target Wave Brood while their tank will have 1 on 1 with Xenith Monk. As Wave Brood and Xenith Monk tanks the damage, the rest of your team can deal damage to your opponents.
Lineup
Prophet Rosa
Prophet Rosa can either give some of your monsters extra range damage or Shield ability. Both of which can be applied to Wave Brood depending on what is best in the current battle.
Xenith Monk
A low mana cost front line to delay the fight until your other damage dealers take care of the back row. His Heal and Void abilities are extremely useful for him not dying early.
Uraeus
Adds Sneak damage to pressure enemy backline monsters while Wave Brood tanks.
Pelacor Bandit
Another Sneak monster. Pelacor Bandit is a fast and evasive monster, useful for taking advantage of openings created by Wave Brood. He's also good against other melee Sneaks due to his high speed combined with Flying ability.
Wave Brood
The main tank soaking up opponent's attacks with Taunt ability. His entire purpose is to protect the team. You can give him Prophet Rosa's Shield ability for a perfect defense or increase his damage to fix one of his weaknesses.
Angelic Mandarin
Keeps Wave Brood alive with Triage ability and reduces magic damage with Silence ability. Silence and Void ability is a strong combination if used together.
Swamp Spitter
A ranged attacker that adds consistent damage while staying safe behind Wave Brood. The Repair ability is a good addition to abuse the Armored Up Rule of Combat.
You know that this monster is strong when I forgot to use Prophet Rosa's abilities and I still dominated the game. The Taunt ability helped a lot as well as Angelic Mandarin's Triage ability restoring Wave Brood's health by 4 each round.
Wave Brood is a powerful Water Splinter monster known for its high health and Taunt ability. Its abilities like Void and Close Range make it really strong in multiple situations.
This monster shines in teams that incorporates Triage ability to support its tanking role at the back. However, the lack of damage is very apparent if you don't have carries on your team.
Overall, Wave Brood is a strong pick for defensive strategies and specific Rules of Combat like Armored Up and Reverse Speed. With the right team and stratgy, it can be a pest for your opponents in a lot of battles.
