The first time I heard this word related to a game is during the hype of Axie Infinity. Scholarships is a term where an account owner allows another player to use and play with their account in exchange for a deal.
Honestly, "Scholarship" is just another term for "Pilot" just like how "Graduate" is another term for "Resign."
If I were to be asked of the difference, I guess "pilot" is the general blanket term and "scholarship" is strictly for NFT games.
The Axie Infinity Era
Around 2 years ago, if I am not mistaken, is the first time I heard of "Scholarship" relating to video games. I had a few friends whom showed the game, "Axie Infinity," to me and in exchange for the "Smooth Love Potion" or "SLP" (Axie Infinity Currency), they can exchange that into money.
I was amazed by the idea but by the time I was aware of it, the downfall started to happen. This is also the time when the Philippine Government started looking at taxing online players because the salary that the "scholars" get from their "managers" were so absurd.
My friend earned around P2500 a week from just playing 2-3 hours while a normal minimum wage worker earns around P500 for 8 hours of work per day.
Scholarship on Splinterlands
I didn't know they did this in Splinterlands as well. I assume these are the whales who have multiple accounts who let others play with their account in exchange for cards or DEC.
I haven't encountered one yet, to be honest. So, my knowledge about this topic is a little shallow. However, let me still share what I know about this Scholarship Program.
Treat it as a work, not a game.
Same when I heard about Axie Infinity, one main rule is always mentioned, "Treat it as a work, not a game."
I guess, since it's not your account, just try your best to win. To be honest, if you have a backer that provides you cards, it isn't hard to get to a high rank as long as you play it seriously.
I mean, if I can get to Champion League with a rented deck, how easier can you do it with a maxed out account?
Never share your keys
This one should be obvious. Never share your keys with anyone who isn't trustworthy. Actually, even if they are trustworthy, you still shouldn't share it especially your Master key.
Sharing your account keys can lead to multiple consequences with the worst case, losing all your cards, crypto, and everything else.
I mean, it's the same as your ATM pin number or your Social Security. Why even think of sharing it with anyone?
Have Fun!
The last advice I would say is to have fun. Yes, you should treat the interaction between you and your manager as professional but it doesn't mean you can't have fun. The less fun you had playing the game, the least you would want to play it.
I also don't mean to troll. You can probably experiment quite a bit but if after, at most, 5 games, you still hadn't win with your idea, maybe it's time to accept that your experiment failed.
There are a lot of guides on the internet, youtube, Hive, Discord to help you get accustomed in the game so just use them and have fun while earning for both you and your manager.
Whether you are the scholar or the manager, one thing you must have in common is trust. Trust that your manager would not fail you if you need help and trust that your scholar won't intentionally ruin your accounts.
Just don't blindly trust strangers from the internet. The world is a big place. Always make sure that you had your guard up at all times and only give the trust to people that deserve them.
