From what I see, most women do the girls day out with their female friends but for me, I love doing it with my mom. These days, she comes to visit me once a month. So, during the short period of time that we’re together, I like to make the most of it. We both love strolling around and exploring places, so that’s how our girls' day out generally looks like.
A few weeks ago,just before the NYE, we spent the night at a hotel called Dafam. It was a chain hotel that offers amazing breakfast. We didn’t have any plans to go anywhere. We just wanted to spend a day eating amazing breakfast and went back to my apartment. Though, we added some window shopping sessions as my mom loves it.
Before going to the train station to pick her up, I checked out their pool and tried the food from the bar. I ordered tom yum soup and a mocktail. It wasn’t really impressive and tasted quite bad. Thankfully, it wasn’t overpriced. She reached the city at around 11PM. Thankfully, it wasn’t raining and I could pick her up without issue unlike the previous month when it rained heavily.
That night, we tried going out around Malioboro around 12 AM. There weren't too many people around, just a few working girls around with their customers. We bumped into one asking where the chain store one and I told them that none is open since the new regulations due covid-19. We headed back when we started seeing more motor gangs around and drunk yelling.
The next day, thinking we would go for a swim, I woke up late. So, we ended up going for breakfast right away. It was quite a breakfast as there was plenty of food to choose from. From appetizer to dessert, they got it all. In the past, we always went to a place with fixed breakfast instead of a buffet. I also often skip the room with the breakfast option because I know I couldn’t wake up early. But that time, I chose a room with breakfast and I could wake up early, thanks to my mom.
My mom was quite excited seeing the beautiful mini cakes. She told me that she is inspired to make a mini cake tray as another menu item that we could offer in our bakery.
Though the cakes tasted mediocre, it looks pretty well made and appetizing. So, at glance, it looked delicious but it didn’t taste that way.
After we had breakfast, we headed to the nearest mall on Malioboro street. My mom wanted to get a sling bag and did some window shopping. She tried on some bags and eventually decided to get one with a zipper on the front. Then, we got to a traditional market where we did some window shopping and just observed the place.
I took a selfie at starbucks just after we walked a lot. My hair was so dry and I sweat a lot. It was a mistake that I wore a sweatshirt though it's basically what I wear 24/7 just in different colors.
We checked out of the hotel exactly at 12 PM. But before we went to my place, we tried the hotel’s gelato.
It wasn’t something outstanding but it was decent for the price that we paid. We chose klepon flavor which is an Indonesian dessert from glutinous cake with palm sugar filling. These days, that flavor is everywhere from ice creams to cakes.
It was before NYE and we decided to visit a mall nearby to check out what people do. We just ended up getting a massage and not going to where most people go, the plaza.
Inside the mall, we went to eat at Duck king which I think has the most delicious oriental food. We ordered a bowl of chicken kung pow. I liked how it was served and we got curious as to what flour was used to make the bowl. It was crispy but I couldn’t tell exactly the kind of flour they used.
After we finished dinner, we got to a popcorn stall. It smelled amazing and that made me want to get it. We got popcorn from Jolly Time. I swear, if you haven’t tried it, you should. Then, that day I also decided that I wanted to go home for a bit.
I love having a girl’s day out with my mom because it’s equally as fun as when I went with a female friend. And sometimes, she is more fun to be with because with her it’s never about a selfie or anything. She rarely takes pictures just as much as I do. She knows how to enjoy a place without involving any selfies.
So, I would be home for another few months before going back to my apartment. I already mapped out some temples to visit and check out. In the coming days, I will be coming up with a conclusion from my temple visit in 2021 and a new note for the 2022 temple expedition. So, stay tuned!

As we grow up, many young people are excited and busy with work, relationships, traveling... and don't have much time for family. I am glad you spend quality time with your mum which I can't do now. She must be so happy about it.
She is! thing is, all of my friends are out of the countries and she's sort of my friend too :D and it's very difficult for me to spend time with her because she's working and have tighter schedule than I do. But if we care enough, there's always time for everything.
Glad you had fun with your mom. I remember way back in my college days my mom would surprise me and tell me she's in the City and we would always have fun together chitchatting and going places to spend time with. 😊
That's the fun part, getting a surprise from a mother. When you have a close relationship, everything is fun when done together 😁
