Admiro mucho a las personas que hablan otro idioma aparte de su lengua nativa. Mientras más idiomas conozcan, más me fascina y me da ánimos para aprender una lengua extranjera. Hablo inglés, pero bien me gustaría aprender italiano, por ejemplo, y en menor medida, el francés. Por eso la mayoría del tiempo estoy descargando apps para aprenderlos, siguiendo contenido educativo o informándome sobre dónde puedo tomar clases, etc. Pero esta historia no va de mi relación con los idiomas, al menos no como les he contado hasta ahora.
Pues resulta ser y acontece, que soy una persona bastante despistada y a veces proceso las cosas más lento de lo que debería. Anécdotas tengo varias para contar y otras que prefiero archivarlas y guardarlas para mí porque... dios mío, CÓMO PUDE DECIR O HACER ESO?!?! Pero hoy les traigo una de mi archivo público jajaja.
Un día por la mañana, iba rumbo a mi oficina en el Vedado como de costumbre. Normalmente debo caminar aproximadamente un kilómetro desde donde me deja el transporte hasta mi trabajo y en ese trayecto, debo pasar cerca de estudios donde graban programas de televisión y radio. Ese día, estaban haciendo entrevistas en la calle para un programa que se llama Ruta 10 relacionadas con el idioma francés.
La reportera muy amablemente me pide responder unas preguntas y yo accedo, nerviosa, pero lo hago. Ya estaba lista para dar mis mejores respuestas... nada más alejado de la realidad...
Primero me pregunta si me gusta el idioma y luego que si sé dónde hay academias para aprenderlo. Hasta ahí todo bien. Como dije al principio, me gustaría aprenderlo y estoy al tanto de dónde dan clases. Pero ahí no termina.
Cuando me preguntan qué sé decir en francés, en vez de decir "no, no sé nada" (para evitarme una vergüenza) qué creen que dije? Pues lo único en francés que recordé en ese momento fue la canción famosa de Cristina Aguilera "Lady Marmalade" y frente a una cámara de televisión pública dije "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?" en un perfecto francés de mi barrio y aprobado por mí. Además de mal pronunciada, irrespetuosa. Decir: ¿Dormirás conmigo esta noche? definitivamente no entraba en mis planes una mañana de trabajo cualquiera.
A medida que lo decía, la sonrisa se me iba desvaneciendo del rostro, pero ya era muy tarde para retroceder. Pues nada, que estuve semanas esperando la transmisión de la entrevista y gracias a quien sea que edite, se apiadaron de mí y no salí en la sección. Pero fue una tensión innecesaria durante días, tan innecesaria como mi respuesta.
La enseñanza: no vuelvo a dar entrevistas sorpresa en la calle. Lo peor de todo? Trabajo en una compañía de Ballet Clásico y estoy acostumbrada a lidiar con vocabulario en francés que bien podía haber utilizado y salir airosa, pero en ese momento, mi cerebro estaba de vacaciones no pagadas, al parecer.
I really admire people who speak a language other than their native language. The more languages they know, the more it fascinates me and encourages me to learn a foreign language. I speak English, but I would very much like to learn Italian, for example, and to a lesser extent, French. As it turns out, I am a very absent-minded person and sometimes I process things slower than I should. I have several anecdotes to tell and others that I prefer to file and keep to myself because .... my god, HOW COULD I SAY OR DO THAT?!?!?!! But today I bring you one from my public archive hahaha.
One day in the morning, I was on my way to my office in Vedado as usual. Normally I have to walk about a kilometer from where the transportation drops me off to my work and on that way, I have to pass near studios where they record TV and radio programs. That day, they were doing interviews in the street for a program called Route 10 related to the French language.
The reporter very kindly asked me to answer a few questions and I agreed, nervously, but I did. I was ready to give my best answers... nothing could be further from the truth...
First she asks me if I like the language and then if I know where there are academies to learn it. So far so good. As I said at the beginning, I would like to learn it and I am aware of where there are classes. But it doesn't end there.
When they ask me what I know how to say in French, instead of saying "no, I don't know anything" (to avoid embarrassment) what do you think I said? Well, the only thing in French I remembered at that moment was the famous song by Cristina Aguilera "Lady Marmalade " and in front of a public TV camera I said "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir? " in perfect French from my neighborhood and approved by me. In addition to mispronounced, disrespectful. Saying, "Will you sleep with me tonight?" was definitely not in my plans on any given work morning.
As I said it, the smile faded from my face, but it was too late to back out. Well, nothing, I waited weeks for the interview to air and thanks to whoever edited, they took pity on me and I didn't make the section. But it was unnecessary tension for days, as unnecessary as my response.
The lesson: I don't give surprise interviews on the street again. The worst of it all? I work in a Classical Ballet company and am used to dealing with French vocabulary that I could have used and gotten away with, but at the time, my brain was on unpaid vacation, apparently.

French is Canada's second language, a little different from it's European French roots. I can understand French but not very confident in it so I can understand your situation in inflecting the wrong meaning.
