This was very memorable for me because this happened when my mom was still alive. It's memorable not only because of it reminds me of her but also because of the series of events that made this happen.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

My mom was a really good cook and entrepreneur. She would usually just put up a mash up stall for a few weeks, take it down, do it again a few more weeks after. I don't know why take it down if it's profitable but from what I understood, it creates a sense of crave in the neighborhood. From my understanding, it made people excited and think like, "Oh, they are open again? I wonder what they would be selling now?" Whenever my mom puts up the stall, we are always sold out always.

The stall is normally for grilled stuff. We sold barbecues, then sometimes, coagulated pig's blood which looks like black jellies, pig's and chicken's intestines, chicken barbecue, etc. The most memorable is when we sold grilled burger patties which was a hit. It's your usual burger but instead of an oven top, the burger bun is toasted over grill on an open fire. The same goes with the herbed burger to be put inside. The smoky flavor is really to die for.

There was one time that the inventory was wrong and we had less meat than we usually have. My mom decided to skip the grilled burger menu this day because she doesn't want to sell a subpar, thinner one. I respected that. What she did was made meatballs from these small amount of patties and sold it for P1 each. If I am to convert that to dollar, that's $0.017 per piece. The price is very low so that even poor kids around the neighborhood can buy it. By the way, the grilled burger costs around P20 each or around $0.35.

It was so funny because that mishap was a huge hit, we had to put it in the menu as a regular thing. My mom called the grilled meatballs as "Bokya," which is another way to say "Zero" due to its shape.

It would be like the photo above from SimplyRecipes.com Bokya is a bite-sized, crispy and juicy, herb-infused skewered meatballs cooked over an open fire. You can dip it in a sweet and sour dip made from ketchup or that spicy vinegar dip filled with onions and chilis for street foods.

That was the kitchen mishap I surely remember, as bright as the sun, even when it happened 10+ years ago.
