No matter how stressed out 2023 was, I still had special moments and people who made me feel so loved with little and big acts of love. You see, for something to be special doesn’t mean it must be extravagant or record breaking. Something as little as showing up when I needed it, I’ll definitely be grateful.
I had different moments where I felt truly blessed and grateful to the people who made such experiences happen, who helped in creating such beautiful memories that I’ll forever cherish.
My first spectacular moment was when my boyfriend got me some skin care products from a brand that I had always wanted to get from, but somehow never got to.
This was my valentine’s gift from him. I got back from work and saw what he ordered. I can’t really put into words how happy I felt because it showed he was listening to me and that he wasn’t just a man of words but of action, which justified the expression of love as action.
He created so many memories in the year 2023 that made me always want to match his energy. On my birthday, he sent some really nice suit gowns, shoes and bags and ordered lunch for all my colleagues at work since the day fell on a working day.
I still remember how I felt when I got calls from different dispatch riders saying they had one or two packages for me. I am grateful to have such a wonderful man in my life who is very intentional about love and actions.
Then there is my girls group. My best friend did one spectacular thing that made me love her more. I had this brown belt which I needed a brown shoe for, but unfortunately, I wasn’t always seeing the exact shade of brown.
I gave up because I just couldn’t go through the stress anymore. On this fateful day, which was some days after my birthday, I got a package from her and there in the box lay the exact shade of brown shoes that I had been looking for.
I knew buying it was never an easy task as I had personally given up due to the difficulty, but she went through the stress just to make me happy. Might I add that this was after she had made a beautiful crochet gown for me which I wore for my birthday girls hang out. I knew at that moment that she’s one friend I’ll always love.
Another special person was a girlfriend of mine who came all the way from the eastern part of Nigeria, to Lagos where I stay, just to spend my birthday weekend with me. We went to high school together and our connection had never deviated even though she relocated to the east.
When she told me she was coming around, I actually didn’t believe it because the cost of all means of transportation had increased significantly and I wasn’t sure she'd be able to come over. However, she came and my birthday was even more special with her around.
There’s also the moment when my friend in another country got me a surprise cake on my birthday. I already made up my mind not to bake a cake, one major reason was I wanted to save cost.
However, my friend had another plan for me and she came through with one of the most tasteful cakes I had ever tasted. The fact that distance was not a barrier to these girls baffled me. Again, it proved that love is an act.
My family have always been one to create beautiful memories for me. Is it the constant prayers that I get from my mum and dad, or the times that with every opportunity my mum had to send foodstuffs to me, she never passes it by, or how my siblings who are way younger than I am show they have my back.
The list of special people creating special memories for me is endless. However, I am truly grateful to God for putting me in the midst of these beautiful people.
As long as we have sincere and good people by our side, it is easier to deal with problems in this life, it is good that you have these people by your side. I wish you a 2024 full of success. Thank you for participating.
