THE TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE: MY FIRST EXPERIENCE CELEBRATING WITH MY FRIEND

in Ladies of Hivelast year

Hi Dear!
Last week was quite eventful for me. I attended my girl's wedding in Edo state. Although I had to leave Delta pretty late, I arrived in Edo state at around 8:30 p.m., I was exhausted but happy to see my girl; Becky. She looked stunning, and we caught up on old times while indulging in some delicious food. The next day, we woke up early and started preparing for the feast. Since the husband-to-be is from Delta, we had to prepare their native soup, that is OWO soup with starch and Banga soup too.

Luckily, I’m from Delta but I needed some assistance so she called other people around to help. We started by steaming, frying, and preparing the ingredients for the soups. I put the Banga on fire so it would be ready for pounding. It was a tiring but satisfying experience. At around noon, all the dishes were ready, and we all had to clean up and then get set for the marriage because the in-laws were already seated in the living room. My girl was already done with her makeup, she was looking wonderful, and she kept on smiling and smiling. Trust me, as the hype girl wae I be, I made her smile more. She took some pictures with her husband-to-be, but I didn't understand what was wrong with him and why he refused to smile as if he wasn't happy he was about to get married, I later heard that he was not meant to smile till the bride price had been paid. They will all be angry at him if he smiles.

I kind of missed that part, though, because, by the time I was ready, I put on my gown, but my zip got bad, luckily for me, there was a Tailor shop opposite the building, so I quickly wore something else and took my gown there. I made sure I'd already done my makeup because I was going to wear the gown after it had been fixed. When the gown was finally sewed, I quickly put on my gown, and it was OK. I went back, and on my way, I met some of my ex-colleagues from the school I was teaching. they were all just screaming my name. I felt timid as I sneaked into the house with the clothes in my hands. By the time I arrived, the bride's price had already been paid, and everyone was preparing for the main celebration. I enjoyed the wedding but had to leave early for work.
Due to traffic, I arrived at my destination late, but fortunately, the driver was kind enough to drop me off at my house. After changing quickly, he offered to take me directly to work. When I finally arrived at my work place , the pianist had not yet shown up, but eventually, we got a substitute pianist. I had to stay at my boss's place with the other performers because it was already too late to go back home. Our Sunday performance outfit was white and I didn't have a white gown, I had to search for a place to buy one on Sunday morning. Eventually, I found one that was not too expensive.

I was so exhausted that I slept all through Sunday morning after church, and I woke up so late that I almost forgot we had to play at Poka Ribs, but I got there after my boss called, and it was fun, the most spirited performance in a long while.

And ever since Monday morning, I've been sleeping, feeling lazy, not trying to do anything, just wanting to rest.

After that, I did go on a date. I feel a lot of guys these days lie a lot, let’s just see how it goes. A friend of mine said I should stop shutting people out and opening up to see what they feel so that I will give it a try.

Happy new month. I wish you the best things life has to offer.

It's strange to see some people have to pay for the bride. Most likely I will never understand this, but I know it's the custom.

I see you're new, so a friendly reminder, it would be nice to see you engage with others more often. Engagement on Hive is key.

Yes dear, I think all the tribes do this.

And yes, I do try my best to engage with people on hive as much as I can. Still learning, though.

I’m grateful you read my story❤️‍🔥
