I'm feeling honoured to be here but at the same time I can hear the loud pounding of my heart too.

I have lots of long term goals than short term goals, I do not know whether I will be able to achieve those goals or not but I'm hopeful about it.
I chose prompt number two, so the question is__ Actually this is my first time here on this wonderful community, @ladiesofhive and I will be sharing some goals which I want to achieve.

We are already in September and soon it will be last quarter of the year.
Do you have a specific goal you want to achieve by the end of the year??
Tell us about it and what you are doing or will do to achieve it.

Dream is something a heart wishes.
Both our Dreams and goals are interconnected, Our dreams motivate us to set goals and our fulfilled goals push us to dream more.
There is no discrimination in the world of Dreaming on the basis of sex, race and colour.
Each and everyone has the innate right to dream, to set goals but still there is a specific gender who don't have the right to dream, you heard it right and I'm talking about girls and if you are from Asean countries, more precisely if you are from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh and then you can feel my words.

Just like other human beings, we, the women too exists and we have the right to dream and to set goals so basically today's article is based on the dreams which I want to fulfill before living my body.
My article may seem little bit exaggerated but believe me it's not.

**The goals I want to achieve___

  1. Freedom to raise voice against all types of Discrimination

Before starting, let's see
What is "Discrimination"???
In simple language, Discrimination is the heinous practice of treating somebody or a specific group in society unequally or less fairly than others.
Discrimination can happen in terms of race, colour and gender.
Today, We will discuss about the third one.

Discrimination can create an invisible wall between the men and women which can make one gender privileged and another unprivileged.

For those who don't know me or reading my article for the very first time, let me tell you that I belong to a country where majority are Hindu who worship women as goddess, such as goddess Durga, goddess Laxmi & many more and a religion where our creator, almighty Allah gave us, the women, all the rights but still we are deprived of all rights.

Every soul deserves to live their Dream but the term "Gender inequality" somehow forced us to portray
another untold story.
It does not matter whether you live in Asean countries or European countries, everyone faced or will face this gender discrimination even for once and if you did not then I will consider you as a very lucky person.

India, a rising third world country is achieving new milestones, developing swiftly than any other countries but still we lacks the most important thing, 'Gender Equality'.
Gender inequality brings unequal opportunities and somehow ruins some specific gender's life. It is girls that the most disadvantaged, discriminated.
One can find discrimination or violance against women everywhere in home, in school, in market.

Though globally girls have bigger survival rate at birth but in India more girls die than boys .
Girls are also the one more likely to drop out of school.

From the past to present, there are the women who faced discrimination in the name of custom, religion.
Such as "Satidaha pratha", Jahar custom, Child marrige ( even now we are dealing with this problem), human trafficking.

Satidaha Pratha :— The historical Sati pratha or Satidaha pratha was infamous mainly among Hindus in which a widow has to sacrifice her life by sitting on the top of her dead husband's funeral pyre.

There was no proof that this inhuman treatment derieved from the scriptures or the so called patriarchal society made this to deprive women of their right to property after the death of her husband.

Fortunately, the Hindu reformer Raja Rammohon Roy and governal general of India ( at that time) Lord William Bentinck enacted the Bengal Sati Regulation Act,1829.

Years and years ago, in Islamic tradition there was a custom in which people used to burry the girl child just after being born.

They did not do any harm to anyone, their only crime was being born a girl.

Jahar pratha :- There was also a historical practice, called Jahar pratha in which the queen of defeated kings kingdom along with other women present in castle has to sacrifice their life by jumping in the fire in order to protect their chastity.

This practice was present in the Rajpoot clans of Rajasthan, India.
No matter from which religion we come, we have to face discrimination everywhere.

Though these heinous practices are banned now yet there are lots of women who are dealing with other problems like rape, sexual assault, human trafficking, early pregnancy, marital rape, and what not.

We don't talk about these problems even after suffering from years because the people around us blames the victim instead of the criminal.
I feel ashamed to tell how the capital of India became the rape capital of India.
I just want to see a all types of discrimination free world so this is my first goal which I want to achieve.

2. Freedom to roam alone at night without any Fear

Some of you may think, this is a very common and simple dream to fulfill but you are wrong.
In India nights are different for both genders.
While boys can roam alone wherever they want, on the other side girls are told since childhood that nights are not meant for them, they are not allowed to roam at night.
Though Now everything is changing, people's thoughts, opinions are developing still we lacks something which is very important.
I can't disagree that the girls who live in cities tend to enjoy more freedom than those who live in provinces or tiny villages.
Still there are always lots of threats( like Nirbhaya, a rape case) present which are enough for girls to lock herself up in the prison made by herself and by the society.
The day when girls will roam freely without any hesitation or fear without thinking it's nighttime or daytime , we will taste the real freedom.

I'm a night owl who loves night more than daytime, who gets peace and happiness in night but in a society full of fears and threats.
I want to get the desired peace by roaming, by enjoying the daintiness of night so this is my second goal.

3.Freedom to say No

I live in a country where good daughters never say NO.
I live in a country where good daughters marries even before completing 18 years in order protect their families legacy.
I live in a country where good daughters don't go to school because education is not for girls.
I live in a country where good daughters never disagree to anything.
There are also some cases where girls taste freedom like a boy but still these very less opposite cases is not enough to hide the truth.

There were lots of time when I said Yes though my heart wanted to shout a loud NO.
So my third goal is to say NO whenever I need to.

I agree there are lots of women who are rising but still there are also lots of girls who are loosing their dreams, their rights under the shiny glittery shield, patriarchal society is making.

The day when women will get the freedom to say NO against all the wrong things which happens to such as the curse of society :- the dowry system, marital rape.

4.Freedom to wear whatever I want

For some people it can't be a proper goal but for me it is one of my most important goal which I want to fulfill.

Basically, our traditional attire of women are 'Saree' and 'Salwar Kameej' .
Though I can't deny the fact that lots of women wear jeans, tops nowdays and other modern attires but wait they too have to go through lots of criticism for doing this.

Both men and women has the right to wear whatever they want but somewhere it's the woman who have to compromise to use this right.
No one in the world has the right to rule someone, to force someone to do something they don't want still it happens and we can't even do anything about it.

Though Boys and girls enters in adolescence in the same age yet they experience it differently.
While the boys tend to nurture the carefree attitude, the girls has to restrict themselves and compromise in every aspect.
Girls has to face risks, violence more than boys still the patriarchal society forcibly protyated women as guilty.

I live in a free country where everyone has the right to wear according to their taste.
But unfortunately there are some people who are destroying this innate right by giving threats, by spreading fears.
So my fourth goal is to wear whatever I want.

There are lots of reason which causes these discriminations such as

  • Poverty
  • Lack of awareness among women
  • Illiteracy or lack of education
  • Patriarchal set up in our society
  • Religion, traditions and beliefs

We can't stop all these discriminations and violance against women if we don't cure this from the root.

**The things I'm doing to achieve my goals **

I am just a teenage girl who is standing in the threshold of adulthood so I can't do anything alone still I'm trying in my own way by studying hard as I want to become an civil servants who have the power to do something for the society, trying my best to spread knowledge among women specially to the illiterate women, teaching small girls for free.
I know my restrictions as a girl who is still dependant on her parents because to be honest I can't tolerate all the threats present in our society so I'm trying to join a NGO and with some social activities which will help to surpass all the odds I will face in future.
I know the things I'm doing are not enough to bring a flood of change but I believe on the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu's word "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

For now I, We, The women are just a shadow warrior who are battling for their rights, for their existence behind the shadow since birth and this war will not stop as long as our soul will accompany our body.
Let's hope for better.
Let's bring a simple and single opportunity for all the women by raising our voice against all the odds and inequality.
We are the one who can bring the light in the dark world.
We are the one who can melt the freezing heart of oppressors with our education, with our awareness, with our kindness.
Ladies let's spread our kindness among us and empower each other.
