Have you ever been on the verge of drifting off to sleep, everything calm and peaceful, and then bam! you feel like you’re plummeting into thin air? Your body jerks, and you wake up confused. It’s such a strange sensation, almost as if your own rest is playing tricks on you.
Este fenómeno se llama sacudida hipnagógica, es algo completamente normal. Sucede al inicio del sueño, cuando tu cuerpo empieza a relajarse profundamente, pero tu cerebro interpreta esa relajación como si estuvieras perdiendo el equilibrio. Entonces, por si acaso, lanza una señal que activa tus músculos para evitar esa “caída” que realmente no está ocurriendo.
This phenomenon is called a hypnic jerk, it’s completely normal. It happens at the onset of sleep, when your body begins to deeply relax. But your brain, still partially awake, misinterprets this relaxation as a loss of balance. Just in case, it sends a signal that makes your muscles twitch to "save" you from a fall that isn’t actually happening.

Stress, extreme fatigue, or even having coffee too late in the day can increase the chances of experiencing this nighttime surprise. It’s like your mind isn’t quite ready to give up control and wants to make sure everything is in order before shutting down completely.

I used to have this in the form of a dream jumping to high into the sky before falling as if I were on a very low gravity world. I got used to it and no longer had that as a repetitive dream.
