Bread and butter - LOH #221

in Ladies of Hive5 days ago

There are very few of my extended family members that I still interact with, or rather my parents still interact with. I grew up with many of them but as time went by, we drifted apart. Among the very few I still interact with, there's one I'm very close to, a lot and I can deem to call my favourite family member.

My favourite family member is my cousin. We're both of the same age and we indulge in so many things together. Although we don't stay really close to each other, her place is one of the places I enjoy going to a lot. Mostly because she's there and also, they are surrounded by nature.

Whenever I go over to their place for a visit, or we're together, our parents don't even bother to send us on separate errands because one will definitely go help the other do hers before we both come back to do the other work.

We both have always been so close and since we were peers, we've made both good, bad and cringe decisions together. For instance, we both, once made a decision to have our first boyfriends at the same time. Did that work out? Of course not. One's heart betrayed the other. There was also this one time we were sent on an errand and this guy that rode a bike drove roughly. The guy was actually drunk and he drove his bike onto the walkway. Instead of apologizing, he shouted at us, saying 'Wetin dey worry una?' A Nigerian term for asking 'what is wrong with you people?' He was in the wrong and was meant to apologize but was too drunk to see it.

Guess what, my cousin spoke up and said 'You too, what is wrong with you?'. This man became so pissed off that he got down from his bike and chased us down the walkway. That fateful day, the walkway decided to be lonely. We both ran and ran and ran till we lost him and you needed to see us panting after running half the way. We got back and our mothers commented on how fast we went on the errand. If only they knew the reason for our fastness.

That is one experience I don't think I'll ever forget. We both share the same fear of dogs and whenever we pass by one, she'll hold my hand and I'll pretend like I've got my shit together, even when I know deep down, I'm a mess. But we both cannot show fear otherwise the dog will sense it and come to play. I'll then muster up enough courage for us both and we'll walk past.

We've had so many fun adventures together. We've committed mischiefs together. We've broken rules together. We still tell ourselves to this day that our mothers loved themselves so much, they offered to share us between themselves because they knew that one of them couldn't handle both of us alone.

Our relationship is one I don't think the saying 'too much familiarity breeds contempt' will apply to. We look forward to always meeting each other at family events and even strangers don't hesitate to call us sisters because of how close to each other we usually are.

It's been a while I saw this particular cousin of mine and although we talk on the phone frequently, it still cannot be compared to spending time with each other. Hopefully, we'll get to see each other soon.

I used to be very close with two of my cousins, we are the same age group, but now we barely talk, I miss those times.

I love your relationship with your cousin, you guys are partners in crime haha

I have a cousin like that too although we were never as close as I am with this one. I don't even know where she is now.
Thank you so much. I'm sure other cousins hate to see us coming, at family gatherings😂

Thank you very much. Currently, it will be such a herculean task to break us apart. I hope it continues being that way🥺
