I wouldn't lie, but I've drifted a bit away from traditional reading. I know it's detrimental, but I'm too caught up in my life and responsibilities.
In this between, one book caught my eye a few months ago while I was passing the road. I remembered the title of the book from the showcase of the bookshop - Courage to be Disliked, because of its catchy title I had to look up what's inside.
Later, I searched about it, and as you may guessed my social media feed because all about this book. I didn't buy the book, to be honest. The price was too high, not in my budget. But I found some online copies (probably not legal) but I couldn't resist and read those.
"Courage to be Disliked" is a book by Fumitake Koga and Ichiro Kishimi that talks about Adlerian psychology (which I was not familiar with before). Unlike many mental health books, rather than giving motivation this book seems like a self-diagnosis to me. Because it shows how to recognize our mental state and establish principals to build happiness.
I have read the whole book, but it's the kind of book that needs to be reread and highlight some points to absorb the theme.
The book was also written in a fun way like dialogs between two person where one gives many philosophical lesson to the other.
If you read my previous posts then you may have had a picture of my life, things are not smooth. And I bet we all are going through somehow the same in a different way.
The idea of 'being a person who can be disliked by others' was a real hit in my mind. My whole life was kind of spent away pleasing people, worrying about their opinion, and not prioritizing my own happiness.
Accepting to be disliked yet contributing to other life to create happiness seems a contradicting term to me at first. However, the psychological approach this book showed helped me to understand it better.
I wouldn't say, I absorbed the whole learning of the book and reflected the same in my life but I enjoyed reading it. The book sure gave me a different perspective of life and approach to dealing with situations.

There was a time when I was a regular reader. Now I feel like I'm in a black hole and disconnected from the world of books and imagination. I still time to time read something here and there. But not like the old way, spending time with a book, reading before sleeping, etc.
But the book I have mentioned was exceptional, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, in the last few months. I need to reread it when I get time or listen to the audiobook.
If you are someone who sometimes feels stuck, needs a new approach to deal with life, or sees life from a different perspective to understand the reason for unhappiness then this might be a book for you.
Thanks to the @kerrislravenhill for such a thoughtful question.

Certainly, after reading this, my pain of not being a likable person to a few is gone/reduced. You can hear the audiobook if you are interested.
A bit heady to me but it is a more interesting layman's approach to Adler's basis in psychology and the connection to Dale Carnage's books. I remember briefly covering this topic in my Practical Nursing training.
To the original question in living a happy life, I've settled to being content. Happy for me is to be a grand parent one day. Thanks for the link to this Audio book @peacefulsoul

The book was not easy; it took me a few months to finish, and I needed to reread it to understand the depth of the writing.
I never thought this book could be in academic or practical coaching/training, but after hearing from you, I feel like that is where this book fits best. Good to know your experience.
It's understandable that life can pull us away from our hobbies and passions. "Courage to be Disliked" by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga certainly seems to have made a significant impact on you. The book's unique format and philosophical insights make it a thought-provoking read that offers new perspectives on life and happiness.
Reconnecting with reading, even sporadically, can provide valuable moments of reflection and inspiration. It's great that you've found a book that resonated with you and gave you a different approach to dealing with life's challenges.
If you have some time, revisiting the book or listening to the audiobook might help reinforce the lessons and insights it offers. And remember, even small moments spent reading can be a meaningful escape from the daily grind.

I agree that re-reading helps reinforce the learning and offers in-depth insight. Although I try to do this, I am often distracted by other things. Reconnecting with reading, with the paper book, and writing on a paper notebook; I miss this.
Thanks for your suggestion. It means a lot.
I really need to read this book.
