Earth 🌎 II πŸ’¨ Air

in Ladies of Hive β€’ 3 years ago (edited)

Most of my tattoos I had done by 24 - a fairy on my shoulder (how very 90s), a spiral on the small of my back, and a cluster of stars. They all mean something to me - scars on my skin that mark what I was going though at the time. They were all done by a lover who was a tattoo artist, which is a sweet memory. He was a drummer in a thrash metal band. I wonder where he is now, as it's been twenty years since I saw him.

My most recent tattoo is a heart I got about three years ago. My Dad had had a heart attack and I was suffering a lot of anxiety. He was then diagnosed with cancer and my heart was going to break with grief. It was around then I fully felt what Grief truly was - it was the flip side of love. Once I truly embraced that I could settle down that intense pain in my chest to something softer and gentler. Special, even. Like I was honouring my father with each painful beat of my own heart. And everyone was so beautifully kind to me during this time. I felt so much love around me that a little heart made sense. I did it quickly, on a whim. But to this day it's my favourite. I wear my heart on my sleeve a lot, you see. Made sense in all kinds of ways to get it inked there.

Now I am entering my 50th year of life I am planning another small tattoo to match, on my other forearm. I'd love to get a whole sleeve of herbs and mushrooms but it seems expensive and frivolous. I like these small tattoos just for me. I don't need them to show off for others.

My plan is to get the alchemical symbol for Earth. As an air sign I live a lot in my head - my intellect rules and I think alot. I have to constantly practice grounding and coming back into my body. Air signs are flighty, changeable, analytical, perceptive. I need earth to balance all that out. Not completely static or stagnant, but more solid and rooted and peaceful.

The earth is also the element from which all others are born and to which everything returns. It's rocks, trees, sky, plants, mycelium, everything. Everything that matters. I've always been a nature lover and deeply connected to the natural world so it makes sense for me to have the earth element on my skin.

It's also a reminder than one day I will be dust and ashes. This body decays, and becomes the earth. That's a sweet thing for me.

I also think it's super cool that the air and earth element are alike - merely flipped. One needs air - to change, flow, create, adapt - and much as one needs stability, self care, groundedness and solidity. From my perspective looking down, I'll be looking at the earth - but for others seeing me, they will see air. This is my outward show, constantly seeking my earth.

This is in response to the Ladies Of HIVE question of the week that you can find here. The challenge asked which tattoo would you get if you were going to get one right now.

With Love,

I think the earth and air signs are very poetic... death to ashes... to air.
Thanks for sharing, good luck to with the contest.

β€œAs our body journeys through life, and life journeys on our body….life will leave marks on us too. From the creases of our wrinkles to the birthmarks on our bodies to the tattoos we decide to place.”

I love that quote. Our scars are a map of our short and brilliant lives.

Nice! I only have two tattoos so far, and they both mean something to me too.
The last one was done in Thailand in 2019, and that one was almost predicting today.
I like the heart one. It's simple, but it's very hard to get a nice heart done when it's just an outline. I love the background story too. I'm sorry about your dad. It's so hard losing those we love.

I might just join this one :)

Do join in. I love how these challenges help us get to know people more. Thanks for your well wishes x

Saludos me gustΓ³ mucho tu post siento que todo eso tiene un significado muy poΓ©tico y muy Expresivo Γ©xitos con tu post

I'm really sorry but I don't speak Spanish. It's a shame Hive doesn't have an auto translate function as it's a bit hard on my phone.

Greetings, I really liked your post. I feel that all of this has a very poetic and very expressive meaning. Success with your post.

Esto fue lo que te escribiΓ³ la amiga @technicalartπŸ’–

Thanks for translating!! It's hard when I am not on computer xx

Yes, I completely understand you, that's why I saw it opportune to help you.

I'll be looking at the earth - but for others seeing me, they will see air.

This line grasped my attention the most. It's full of wisdom. Other people looking us as a mentor and a role model. They see us like a sky while in our selves we are grounded and strong, not likely to fall. Wonderful!!

Cheers!! I love it too ... We have an outward and an inward way of being I believe. I love my air quality and am happy to present that to the world but I also need to ground. Perfect. Now I am super keen to get it!

I hope you would get it safely 😊

I am not a fan of tattoos, but seeing it from what each one represents for you, they give another vision, I like that they are small. And I loved how you express yourself through the elements of nature. I wish you luck in the contest. BlessingsπŸ™πŸΌπŸ€—πŸŒΊ

Thanks so much. To me it's about getting to know the great ladies of Hive!

πŸ‘‹πŸΌ Nice to meet you @riverflows πŸ€—πŸŒΊ

How nice, didn't know you had any tattoos πŸ™‚ It sounds very poetic how you describe the different elements and your plans for your next tattoo.

Personally, I don't understand tattoos, I have never even considered getting one. But I'm happy to read that they mean something to you and that they are helpful.

xx

I love your idea for your next tattoo...because I already have it! πŸ˜…

Please excuse the resolution. I'm a libra, which is an air sign, and my partner is a Virgo, which is an earth sign. From his point of view, he'll see the alchemical symbol of my sign and on my point of view, I'll see his. That's why I decided to have it on my ring finger. I know, too, cheesy. 😁 I love your reason way better:

From my perspective looking down, I'll be looking at the earth - but for others seeing me, they will see air. This is my outward show, constantly seeking my earth.

Such a sweet way of narrating your tattoo story! I love spirals and fell in love instantly with the Earth symbol! This little heart with its big story and huge feelings is great!

AW, thanks. I'd love a whole sleeve of herbs! But it seems such a waste of money and I dont have a tattoo artist lover anymore!

Oh yes, a whole sleeve of herbs, how amazing!
I am a huge tattoo fan, although I have none on my body... Weird, ha?

you have chosen your metaphors in a unique way I hope you have all the love that you deserve.

I'm speechless you touched my heart with every word you wrote.

truly thank you for sharing πŸ€—

That is so kind, thanks for your reply xxx

I love why you got your heart, I can relate to your feelings during that time so much.
Ah lots of mushrooms and herbs I'm with you on that, I know I said a mushroom, but now I am actually thinking maybe nettle as well lol.
The earth sign is perfect for you, all about balance indeed xxxx

I am a little late here but just wanna leave my comment because this post just touched me.
As an air sign myself I can understand how important for us the grounded earth connection is. And also coming to our hearts often from the high spheres we are at home. The flow of water seems to be familiar and easy to reach, but not to forget heart and earth connections. So important thanks for reminding me !LUV
