You'd think I wasn't busy at all at the moment, not working and all. But life has its way of filling you up. Being project people, we always have some crazy things we are building to a deadline, and sometimes even when we aren't we manage to pack a lot into a day.
Routines, however, make health a little easier.
One thing I never, ever skip is massive glass of water with ACV first thing, usually in the shower. If I don't have that I feel thirsty most of the day. One loses a lot of water at night, around 200 milliliters, so you'd be crazy not to rehydrate. I also have another one with a greens powder - I love Vital Greens - and a heaped tablespoon of collagen powder which I need for my muscles and tendons. One fish oil tablet and a B complex, and two magnesium tablets and a probiotic.
Breakfast I usually wait til at least 10 o'clock. I try to intermittent fast most of the week so if I have dinner early the night before, I get a good stretch of hours in when my body is just doing it's job digesting. When I'm at work it's usually 11 am as that's recess time. I usually have homemade muesli, yoghurt and berries. If I'm home it's more varied. Lately I've been cooking red lentils with miso and stock and having a kind of lentil congee piled with greens, spring onions and chilli, or some protein powder, oat and banana pancakes. I've been on a big mission to eat as much protein as possible. They do say it's the best thing for menopausal woman and I feel it in my body.
This means I do have to be prepared really - it means a bit of meal prep and shopping lists. I have a big blackboard in my kitchen I wrote things on when I think of them.
Peanut butter on a spoon straight out of the jar is my guilty snack but hey it's high protein and good fat so who cares. These days you can get awesome nut butters that aren't solely peanut. It does fill me up a bit and stops me eating biscuits so it's the better of two apparent evils. Nuts are absolutely my afternoon snack. I have a big bag of unsalted mixed nuts in the car which I eat on the way back from the surf if I'm beyond hungry or to stop that afternoon slump.
Lunch is often lentil soup, salad, or maybe not anything if I've had a late breakfast. Dinner is easy in the summer - some kind of protein and salad. Lately it's been chargrilled snapper and Asian slaw with mango. I love mango season in Australia! Often I'll make enough dinner for two nights, especially when we know we are going to be busy. This lentil and herb middle eastern soup is amazing and we didn't mind eating it twice in a row, with some in the freezer as well.
To be honest, I don't find it that hard to cook even if I'm busy. As long as I have enough food in the fridge I can whip something up in ten minutes. A few chargrilled veggies, some pickles, some salad, some halloumi and boiled eggs - well that's nutritious enough, right?
Often it's a matter of thinking ahead. If I know it's going to be a busy week I'll make some healthy snacks like this high protein seed and nut psyllium loaf. It's delicious with peanut butter or any spread you like!
To be honest, I don't have to think about it too much. I've been raised healthy and have a really good understanding of nutrition, so for me it's easy to cook good food fast even if I'm busy. I just have to stay away from cake and cookies and chips - because if I'm busy, sometimes I fail to think about it too much.

Every woman's dream. At least, it's mine. I eat a lot but I don't cook healthy food a lot. Heck, I don't even cook a lot, especially when I'm busy. I just find the next available fast food and it's mostly bread 😩. See why it's my dream? If I fully understood nutrition, and could stuff my fridge with vegetables and other healthy foods, and on top of that, be able to whip it all up in 10 minutes anytime I wanted to, I'd stay winning. But now, I need the extra discipline to eat out and eat healthy out.
Maybe one day. 🥲
Ah you have to start somewhere. I guess you could find a couple of healthy recipes and rotate those through the week? Like some kind of slaw with a healthy dressing and a grilled protein works well. And soups are great too.
I do love soups. Thanks! 😁

I make a fair bit of my diet from scratch, and my mother always preferred to cook supper herself. Part was budget, part was enjoyment, part was nutritional concerns.
In Australia, we don't really have a history of ready made meals. There's a few more than there used to be, but we are a nation that largely does make food from scratch. I can't even imagine buying ready made meals!
Looks delicious thank you for sharing 👍🏾

Ever since being on sick leave from work, with more time I've been trying to gain my health back starting by eating healthier, more home cooking, and better choices. Trying to stay on a regular exercise routine is harder than I thought, and finally getting used to sleeping with a Cpap machine for more than 5 hours, took me months to find the right mask, fitting and rhythm. Healing in progress. ❤️
