Decembers are always lovely and exciting and I always look forward to this time of the year with much enthusiasm. Aside from the numerous activities set out, it's an opportunity for me to wild out lol. Growing up, the Christmas holiday have never really been a big deal to I and my family because we were part of a church who felt it was overrated so we didn't exchange gifts and all,I don't think I've received a Christmas gift before but thanks to growth and flexibility, we've been celebrating the season with more intentionality for the last couple of years.

As a typical Nigerian, the Christmas holiday is an excuse to fill every pot with meals and every tray with pastries. There's an unmistakable aroma from every house you pass by and everyone seem to be kinder and more cheerful lol. Yes, it's also a time for special family bonding with all hands on deck as we chatter away. I particularly love this season because it is colourful and vivacious. Aside the carols playing in most shops(I love carols), you can see Christmas decor, red sweaters and sashes with 'Merry Christmas' boldly written, wands,Santa toys and giant trees in shopping malls.

This year is more exciting for me because I'll be spending the holidays at my hometown for the first time. I'm greatly anticipating the different environment, people and experiences.

The New year is a special tradition for us and I believe, for everyone because how can it not be? The vibe is contagious and you can barely hear your scream among the crowd's uproar. I and my brother would race to the calendar for the first person to change the dates and we'd tease other with 'I haven't seen you since last year','we haven't eaten since last year',etc. Although I stopped writing New year's resolution because I was tired of disappointing myself, it's always fun to watch others brag about theirs. Since it's my brother's birthday too, after the church's service, we'd spend the night singing, chatting and eating pastries and we'd race each other to the toilet for the 'first person to use the toilet that year'. It's really awesome seeing everyone with so much vigor and holding firmly to what the year promises and if you look past the fireworks in the sky, you'd see some in their eyes.

I invite @deraa to participate!(for a first 😂)

Sort:

Living in African heat we normally celebrate outdoors on various days, very relaxed atmosphere unless it is raining.

Christmas Eve a special dinner also normally taken outdoors being cooler than in the house, now this is where mosquitoes come to eat me alive 😂.

Presents were given to the children, now all grown up this too no longer happens, frenzy buying normally ends up not being what was wanted.

When children were teenagers we purchased a gift to the family, like a TV decoder, or TV depending on what was needed to make the family happy throughout the new year.

Thanks for stopping by and for sharing ❤️
