A Walk Among My Potted Vegetable Garden

in Ladies of Hive4 years ago (edited)

Walk with me!

I want to show you the few potted vegetables that I have. Please excuse the ash.

Tomatoes

This tomato plant is an Early Girl variety. It has so much fruit, I tied it to a bistro chair because the stakes can't hold the weight of the tomatoes.

Have you seen the movie Fried Green Tomatoes? It is a 1991 film based on the book "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" by Fannie Flagg. My Mom wanted to see the movie and brought me along with her. I think I was a Junior in high school then.

How about these for some yummy, crisp, spicy, and mouthwatering fried green tomatoes?

I love fresh ripe tomatoes, don't you? How about a Caprese Salad with fresh basil leaves, fresh mozzarella cheese, and Balsamic vinaigrette?

Eggplant

I have three pots of Japanese Eggplant.

I like the Japanese Eggplant because it is less bitter than large globe eggplant, so it doesn’t need to be salted before cooking.

Also, because it is slender, small, and firm, it cooks much faster and doesn’t need as much oil as larger eggplants.

Japanese eggplant is great roasted, grilled, steamed, or added to stews. It pairs well with basil, mint, garlic, lime, chiles, miso, sesame, peanuts, red curry, vinegar, and honey.

Green Bell Pepper

The green bell pepper is a sweet pepper picked before ripening.C

As it ripens, the fruit turns yellow, orange, and then red. However, there are bell pepper varieties that remain green when fully ripened. C

Green bell peppers are low in calories, and high in dietary fiber and vitamins C and K. They are slightly bitter, which accentuates their refreshing flavor when eaten raw. They are also eaten cooked, particularly in ratatouille.

Wow, you have so many tomatoes! We used to grow a lot of them when I was a kid and had some every night with dinner, nothing beats fresh from the garden especially for a caprese salad...I'm coming over for lunch! . You have a beautiful garden and crops! Thanks for sharing :)

WOW your garden is doing so well, and yes I have seen that movie

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

Nice Garden, very nice!
I joined LOH discord btw...

Your garden is doing awesome @silversaver888!!! Is this the first one you have done? Very impressive either way. Do you notice any difference in the flavor from your own plants vs the store?

How does your garden grow? Me thinks you have a green thumb @silversaver888! Your potted garden is thriving and the produce looks very tasty! There is nothing better than the food you grow yourself; it's tastier, organic (unless you use pesticides) and super fresh as you can pick it when you want it. Very nice! Thanks for sharing sis!💕😘🤗🌸

Veggie garden from pots, yeah that's what I will be experimenting with next spring Sis.
I know that you don't have much of growing space and it's a great ideal to grow veggies out of pots. Can be decorative if you arrange the pots in a certain way to max sun exposure and look good too. Maybe even around a little water fountain for that Zen feel.
Always, with love 🤗 🌺 💓

You certainly have a green thumb @silversaver888!!!😀 Both me and the Mrs grew up in Cincinnati, and I always looked forward to fried green tomatoes, it is a Summer tradition!!! Where we live in the Northwest people look at you strange if you try to buy green tomatoes, so yummy!!🤗
Now I will need to have the Mrs go look for some Lol!!!
Take care my friend!!😍😍😀

Look at you and your green fingers. Loving those tomatoes they look amazing and juicy. I was going to offer some gardening tip, but it looks like you're all sorted and will be telling me how to grow veg pretty soon

Well well well @silversaver888 this is really looking GOODDDDD. #Ilikeitalot too ...

I have some plants on pots too, but this year I didn't grow the big tomatoes, but this really little red sweet snack tomatoes. They are delicious! Only thing is ... my dogs love them too! Every time when I'm outside with them, they are stealing my little sweet red tomatoes right from my plants. And I cannot help it, I really laugh when I see it.

Your plants are very productive. I guess the californian sun does really good for them. Enjoy it, there's really nothing better then fresh grown veggies. And it's not only healthy and delicious but also a joy to see it happen in your own garden. Literally picking the fruits of your own work.

Have a great day and take care! 💖😘🌻

What a great idea to do it in a pot, I could do do that

Your tomatoes are certainly Big Boys! I had a Caprese salad last night! I try to make as many as I can while the tomatoes are in season. Such a delicious treat as the fresh mozzarella cozies up to the balsamic.

Oh, yes!

I have a small garden. but, do some in pots, more to rotate the sun to its advantage. :) I must say that yours are probably the nicest looking plants in pots that I have seen, and, I am truly not just saying that. For some reason, people tend to overwater or underwater their pots. Yours look like they are grown in the ground, healthy, nice color, even on the leaves and delicious enough to eat off the vine.

Thanks for showing the potential with pots and giving us the lowdown on nutrition! As always, have a great day, sunshine.

You do have a bit of a green thumb going on there nothing better then growing your own fresh veggies you doing well 👍

You have some very nice veggie plants. They look so healthy, I had more flowers than food growing, but it got hot here and dry.... and most of them are crispy critters by now.

I say that like I'm proud of it or something ... .right ? Now that they are dead, it is raining a lot. LOL !
