Puuhonua O Honaunau for Wednesday Walk

Assume you had just broken one of the sacred laws, and the only penalty was death. Your only chance of survival is to avoid your pursuers and get it to the Puuhonua. During the battle, the Puuhonua defended by the kapu breaker, defeated warriors, and civilians. Those who crossed the Puuhonua's boundaries faced no physical harm.

Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau is a 180-acre national historic park. It was once the home of royal grounds and a place of refuge for ancient Hawaiian lawbreakers.

Kapu, or sacred laws, were of utmost importance to Hawaiian culture and the breaking of kapu had its consequences, including death. If one were to break kapu, their only chance for survival was to evade his pursuers and make it to a puʻuhonua, or a sacred place of refuge. Once there, a ceremony of absolution would take place and the one who broke kapu would be able to return to society.

Puuhonua o Hnaunau is still revered as one of Hawaii's most sacred historic sites. The Hale o Keawe Heiau, a sacred sanctuary that housed the bones of 23 alii (chiefs), is guarded by fierce kii, or wooden figures of gods. Those who broke kapu were prevented from arriving by water by a black lava rock beach.

The nearby Royal Grounds were the sacred home of alii, after the puuhonua. Keoneele Cove, the royal canoe landing; the Keua Stone, the favorite resting place of Kona's high chief, Keua; and hlau (thatched work house), fishponds, and a heiau (sacred temple), are one of the park's oldest structures.

Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Park is located at Hōnaunau Bay in South Kona, The Big Island of Hawaii.

I went as far north to Bagiou City and attended the Flower Festival there, and to the south in Mindanaw!
In between, I visited 100 Islands and ziplined between two islands.
It was fantastic!!!
